Hawken crossbow scope
Hi.
Rescenly I got my self on crossbow and have some issues with accompanying hawken accompanying. As known it has 3 red dots when looking thru it. However having accuracy problems i got to shooting range and discowered somthing intristing. With target set to 50 meters with full zoom middle red dot is 100% always on target.10 points constantly. Howerer same distance not zoomed in middle dot is way off target. Can this considered a bug? I have learned with 3 pin bow sight is quite different...

Second focal plane scopes (google this if you're unsure what they are) like all scopes in COTW do not retain the same "bullet drop" over different zoom levels.

This video is the hands down best in depth explanation between second and first focal plane scopes I've found.

Hi President
I wached whole video. Its very insightfull. I even learned somthing i didnt know (not a hunter). I have no issue with bulet drop on any other gun or bow. Even crossbow without scope is prety acurate. However that doesnt explain 3 red dot with different behavior on different zoom levels. Why did put 3 red dots instead one dot and mill dots ?

I see. I'm not sure I understand your issue. Let me test it out for myself.
Mr. President Oct 4, 2018 @ 4:11pm
Well I tested out the 420 gr bolt on the range and found what I expected. Different points of impacts at different levels of scope magnification. This is becuase the scopes are second focal plane scopes (like the vid above explains) and i'm assuming the increased drop that a bolt would have compared to a bullet would account for the exagerated changes in trajectory over different magnication levels. Like the video above explains, if the scope was first focal plane, the crossbow would would have the same behavior over each zoom level.

This is the hold over for 50m at 1x zoom

Hold over for 50m at 2x zoom

Hold over for 50m at 3x zoom

Hold over for 50m at 4x zoom

Lastly the 50m hold over at 5x zoom

I cant possibly imagine the devs have been that detailed in their design of the crossbow sight to include the first and second focal thingy (I saw the video)
But based on that video and realism sake, i think its cool that it is so in-game even if i believe it is a bug.

That's fine, it is cool but why do you think it's a bug? Any game with consisent modeled projectile physics and a multi zoom, second plane scope (tbh i'm not sure theres game with a first focal plane scope anyway...) should exhibit the behaviors found above. What would you rather have?

I don't understand your problems. 50m is always exactly on the dot for me, no matter what magnification i use. I have a video where i went through all magnification levels twice, always hit the 10... just disregard the first shot (it was zeroed for 30m)

I wonder if the zeroing perk makes it hit at the same spot for all magnification ranges? I once had the perk but reset the skill and never choose it again.

Thatnks for replay.
I dont have zeroing perk. My point was using 420gr bolt aka green one(Lexor76 was using blue 300gr bolt) only reliabile hit was when fully zummed out on middle dot. If it is not then is not going to hit where you point. Or you can make educated guess where it gonna land. It seems i must speend some time at range...

Do take note that the 300 and 600gr bolts/arrows may behave differently then the 420gr bolt/arrow as they are lighter/heavier. the 300gr may be more affected by wind, where the 600 gr less so but has a higher drop cause its heavier.

I would like to have a scoped rifle that has the same bullet trajectory at various distances on animals that it has at the rifle range. For example, the .243 and .270 when set at the 150m zero, hit dead on at all distances up to 200m at the range. Try to spine an animal at 40m when It's set at the 150m zero and U hit air. The AI's determination of bullet trajectory should be duplicated on the range. If the shot is going to be high then it ought to hit high on the target at the range. Low, those two are pretty close to matching so they've got it half right.

Mr. Pres, to me the greater the magnification, the more you are raising your aim. The top red dot is rising as you increase the magnification. Even in the first pic the red dot is not on the center of the target but above it. So how do you determine now much to raise your aim for each level of magnification.
The Unwoken Oct 5, 2018 @ 7:00am
And what is the point of the two other red dots?
