I never use a bow for a trophy shot as it is way to imprecise and you take an additional risk into the shot that you would not have with guns.
Its a tool which does it job well.. downing larger group of animals. Butcher knive vs. scalpel each tool has its sense...
I maxed out the sotgun as well but only because I want to be ready when birds come to the game... they better as I'm counting on it.
What I have done before is to call & spot the female moving in & then move over to the flank before she gets close enough to spook. The doe moves past me to one side as i stay hidden & then I get a shot at the buck following in behind her.
You don't need to buy all the sights for it (I still use the basic 1-pin sight, but I also have zeroing enabled for my rifles, which pretty much removes the need for the other sights). Just get the basic one and have fun.
You will see animals dropping far more quickly than you do with rifle/handgun. They bleed out much quicker.
For me, each weapon makes it like a different game when you use them. I might decide one day to do fox/coyote hunting with the .357, or one day I might do bison hunting with a bow. It's great fun to switch up like that.
The prone bow perk allows prone firing but you will find AIMING uncatered for and v tricky - it's tracking-bait territory! It's a no-go and for a reason, I believe. Have you ever tried shooting a bow lying down? I shoot bows and I never have and never will. It doesn't work. A lot of the devs are hunters and they don't like to stray "too" far from reality. Lol. Comments? ;)
The draw length (1st) one is good - put one point in. Any more is wasted imo with current mechanics/perk-strengths. That should give you plenty of time. Otherwise just collapse/let down the shot and start again.
All the other ones seem to make so little difference as to not be worth it, imo. Even the random offset one. Your accuracy will be just fine without them. You can make heart shots to 30m without, wind/range estimation permitting.
I have used to have them all (archery perks) and have happily paid to reset them multiple times. I have about 40,000 bow score and still love it. I currently have zero perks in Archery. 0:D
Jager mentioned he never uses his bow for Trophy hunting - I totally agree as it'll get you into a lot of trouble if you're "into" challenging shots - lol. Also it depends on where you are in your "career." He and I have lots of hours and suspect trophy's really means diamonds (I'm not sniffing at a good gold at all but might consider using my bow on it - I would never with a potential diamond - shivers) so that gives us loads of options depending on mood. What I am saying is bows are lots of fun regardless of level.
Lastly, there are tools which will do the job better, for sure. You can even do the stalking-really-close-thing with any weapon, but there is just something more special doing it with the bow, I feel. Primal? Whatever, it gives great satisfaction and reward to spend a bit of time getting towithin 15-20 meters of your target and putting a spine or heart shot in with an arrow. They will also double-lung at that range with greater consistency than other ammo types/calibres (gen.) at their app. ranges. Esp. with bigger or dangerous game as if you don't get an insta-kill they will hurt you back! Fabulous.

but herds get scared anyway. because they see the other animal dropping down. but that makes sense.
the beginner bow isn't very usefull for moose. the first animal i shot with it was a moose and that was a insta kill trough the spine. but the next moose i tried didn't die at all. going for the lungs from the front doesn't work.
boar hunting is a blast though.
i wanted to try raindeer too, but when i was aiming i got attacked by a bear. check my screenshots. it was pretty scary. they have proper animations now. i used my colt 44 to kill it but took a lot of damage.
It's not as stealthy as in classic. Even if you get an instakill and the animals goes straight down, the others will run away a bit.
But they will run only maybe 50m compared to 150m or more when using guns. And they will come back and chill out far quick using bows
Wish I had started using the bow from Day 1 now. It is absolutely awesome and so much fun. I am feeling that I have missed out on a lot by not experiencing the bow from scratch, and so will go back to no perks on the bow and build up that way to see what I 'missed'.
Also, I feel as if the bow is a bit of a magnet for herd animals. I set up camp on a rise in a wooded area in North Rathenfeldt, started calling Roe Deer, and within 10 minutes I had 7 of them parked up around me! Knocked them all off bar one. Move further north a little, started calling Fallows, and again within a short period of time, had a herd hovering around. Never seen such a response when using the rifles. Also, creatures hardly move off after one of their mates is taken - they seem to saunter away casually and them amble right back on the next call. I try not to exploit this too much but the auditory feedback from the arrow strike and bow release is kind of mesmerising to me! As Scythe said above: Primal!
This vid is sooo freaking good and basically responds to the OP in 51 seconds ... Bow is my go to weapon, rifle for long kills, anything under 50m is bow for me.
