Which is more rare, Diamond or Piebald/Albino?
I'm wondering because I've only come across one diamond so far (lvl 9 coyote) which I was unable to kill, but I've now found and killed 3 rare fur deer, and I've seen what I think was a rare fur bear (had blonde color to it).

Not sure how excited I should get about seeing and hunting the rare fur animals. I might just be extremely lucky. Cool thing about these hunts though is that in all 3 cases I've been unable to get the animal on my first encounter with it, but have managed to find it again, either at a later time the same day, or on the next day. The last piebald I purposely ambushed at the feed zone where I'd seen it (my original spot was right when it was taking off and wind was not in my favor).

I keep thinking that I might go back and try that diamond coyote again, but the problem with it was that it gets down wind and I can never get close without spooking it. I'm not leveled enough for scent spray. I did go back to the need zone and picked up it's tracks again, but was unable to ambush that one (I think I didn't get the time of day right).

It truly depends on the individuals initial herd spawn. I've taken countless piebald, about 3 or 4 melanistic, 2 "blackgold", and at least one albino in every species except for black bear (and even one all-white piebald bison) - but I've only got about 4 diamonds.

If you are lucky enough to have an initial spawn with several rare fur types, you can get several early on in the game, but if your spawn has no rare fur types, then you have to kill until one of them happens to pop up while replacing the animals you harvest (which means you have to wait for that "1 in whatever" chance.

And another thing to remember is that an albino/piebald/melanistic/etc remains that way regardless of your integrity bonus. There are plenty of diamond level animals I've taken, back when I cared nothing about score, but were not diamonds because of the lower bonus score.

230+ hours, never seen an Albino. gotten 5 diamonds 2 Piebald and am unsure about melanistic.

For me, Albino is the most rare in the game as i have never seen one.
there all rare piebald in my opinion is easier to find than albino and albino is easier to find than diamonds and diamonds are easier to find than my self esteem

Boy, you've nailed it! Self esteem? Tcha! This game will take it away pronto. This is my first game and I've seen a piebald doe and killed an albino doe blacktail. Hope that means I'm in for some more fur surprises! I get enough of the bad ones in this game. Flesh wounds, aarggh!

I got 1 Piebald Red deer male,(Silver) 1 Albino Roe Doe, and 1 Albino Fallow Buck, think that was a silver to. But never a Diamond yet. Highest ia a Roe Buck 922, but only have 280 hours plus in game, it will come,,, some day.
diamonds are more common than fur variations or atleast diamond potential in my opinion

Possibly what makes it seem more common to find the rare furs is that they are obvious when you spot them, Diamonds are tricky to identify.

not really if you got the perk that gives you the score range and you look at the animals level
darkSol May 24, 2018 @ 2:40pm
Well, that still requires you get a spot. With rare furs you just have to get eyes on. One of my frustrations with the game is that I can see an animal quite clearly but the game won't let me get the spot because it's just barely concealed by vegitation.

Plus, I don't have that perk. Actually I've seen some videos that recommend not using that perk, you can apparently more consistently identify the diamonds by the weight estimate. Some sort of bug is causing the estimate to always give you the animal's weight as the lowest weight in the estimate, so you know by that if it's diamond potential. I've not really attempted to use that so far, but it does seem correct based on the weights of the animals I'm seeing.

Never seen a diamond. Bagged a bunch of those genetic mutants though.

I think the diamonds are more plentiful than albinos or piebalds. The difference is an albino is still an albino even if you shoot it 25 times with the .22LR. To collect a diamond essentially everything has to be perfect.

Same here. Not a single diamond, but probably five or six rares seen, all of this apart from the missions of course. Could be that the diamonds are not more rare but just super spooky, while the piebalds and co. are easier to hunt.

During my time played I've found that some species are rather more common to have different fur types then others.

Tho I tend to run/walk all the time so I haven't really tried to find any Diamonds until I've completed all the missions.

In Layton Lake, Black Bears and Rabbits seem to be more common to have different color variations. as you can see in my screenshots: https://steamcommunity.com/id/funGi_right/screenshots/

BT, WT, RE and Moose seem to have the same rarity. I've only seen one rare Coyote during my 400+ hours.

I haven't played much on Hirsh and Medved so I cant give you any info on those maps.

Just got the answer from a definitive source.

According to my fiancée, since she hasn't seen one, diamonds are more rare. But I'm not sure she was talking about trophy scores or something else... I wasn't really paying attention.
i think some of this depends on what kind of hunter you are. those who know how to get diamonds will probably get them more regular.id say a albino personally is harder to come by.
