Spirit Bear
Killed a curiously furred Brownie today. Taxidermy man called it a "Spirit" fur, whatever that means. I know it don't mean xtra pts on thu scorecard or more money in my pocket. Still, worth a little braggin as it don't seem a common genetic trait amongst the Brownies hereabouts. Some crazy ole native'll probably call down a curse upon me fer not lettin it be.

Yesterday was full of surprises. Screwed up and flesh wounded a black bear with a .243. While I was waiting to see if it'd come back to the need patch a big Blacktail buck popped up on the hillside above me. Plugged it, tracked it and found it dead not 2 steps away from the flesh wounded bear that was also dead. Plugged another moose towards evening and lost it in the bullrushes along the lake. Came out of the rushes and there was a buck about 170m away. Shot it and tracked it. Saw it lying over there and danged if the buck hadn't run right past the moose I'd lost before expiring a few feet away from it. Also got my first ever anything over a 4 -mild
with a 6-Hard black bear that eked out a gold rating. Makes me really appreciate what a whopper a diamond rated bear would be and just how hard it would be to harvest it.

Ummm... Taxidermy man? Extra points? Scorecard? Is this something with the Hunt Club (I'm unable to access it)?

The term spirit bear is most often associated with the near white/white version of the Kermode subspecies of black bears in BC, Canada. But the term has been used for albino/blonde bears.

I think he means...
Taxidermy man = xray screen
Extra points = You don't get any extra trophy points for the fur colour
Scorecard = Latest harvests/ history screen.

At least that the way i took it...lol

In the game it is just a very rare fur type for bears. Comparable to albinos and melanistics.

And "extra points" most likely refers to XP, Scorecard means the respective weapon score obtained for the kill and Taxidermy is " the preserving of an animal's body via stuffing or mounting for the purpose of display or study. Animals are often, but not always, portrayed in a lifelike state. The word taxidermy refers to the process of preserving the animal, but the word is also used to describe the end product, which are often called "mounts", so it's just a metaphor for how the game called the fur type.

I'm quite familiar with taxidermy, as I've got several mounts myself. What I was trying to figure out is why he used any/all of these terms - they have nothing to do with the general game, so I thought maybe he was speaking about the Hunt Club.

I've never heard (or maybe I missed it), and I've never seen anything mention a "Spirit Bear" in game. And it would be odd to have that be mentioned on the Siberian map (since he did say it was a "brownie", and that's the only place with brown bear). I've taken every fur combination on both maps (including melanistic and albino on the Siberian map), and I've never come across that reference (although I may have missed it along the way).

I've not seen/heard anything in-game when it comes to taxidermy (and maybe I missed that too).

Okay, thanks fo all the comments. I appologize for attempting to injecet a little humor and role play venacular into my earlier comment. Obviously that was not a good move. Rest assured I'll keep comments to the straight and narrow from this point on.

The only spirt I get is in the glass in front of my mouse when I’m playing. It’s a Russian spirt. Maybe I should pay more attention to the game.

Here's to early success and then to the lodge for some Gray Goose on ice.

Thanks for the hint! I went to look this up, it says you get the achievement when you shoot one with a handgun. That will keep me alert when hunting brown bear going forward.

Sprit Bears are not always legendary. Mine was level 2 easy.

Mine was in one of the flat no underbrush but tall trees between to blue dome tent thing belonging to the guy supposedly starving. It's the one I first say hogs in as well. So we're talking basically from the first Outpost onwards along the river. I only had a .270 so I was lucky it was not one of the monster brown bears. In coloring they look more like Glacier Bears since they are not white per se.

I took a level 3 very easy Moose yeserday that wound up with an 817 score. It had puny antlers which are kind of like the first palmation many Alaskan Moose get when they turn 3. Barely 36" wide etc.. Up there they call them Bullwinkles after the cartoon. Yet, even if the antlers had maxed out it wouldn't have made diamond. I'll take the Gold any day. especially at level 3.

It's easy to turned around in that frozen place. All that thick brush was driving me crazy. Just the one trip to that reserve thus far. It didn't take me long to see I needed a gun with more wallop to it. Still, got a lynx the spriti bear , one pig,one carribou and a700+ Moose. That moose was a l-o-n-g chase let me tell you. That thing was a hardy beast for sure, and kept doubling back or running around in circles inside the brush. Took me a spell to sort it all out. Luckily, just as I was about to say screw this he jumped out of the brush and stopped dead broadside to me at about 15yds. BANG and it was off to the races again. 2nd go round didn't last very long. The score thing showed I'd hit him in both lungs. One round going in from each side. I do not know what it is about me the shoots center mass all the time. Outta change my name to "One Lunger".

I can tell you this though...one one occassion I killed a 550 black bear and one bigger one in one area of lakeside and as I was leaving out I crossed paths with a third black bear that looked a whole lot like the 550 I'd killed in almost exactly the same spot where I'd first seen the 550.Really makes you wonder doesn't it. Same kind of bear in the general area, if not the same area, where you'd taken one like it before?
