Also, why are the female elk bugling? Is this correct? They don't in Classic.

Do they not do that in real life? I actually have no idea but if they dont then obviously they need to change that...

The does are not grunting, they are bleating or they are snorting/warning. They just sound a bit strange in game. But you can tell the difference between the male and female calls once you recognize them. The same for the female elk call and the male call - the female doesn't have the same duration or volume as the male call.

Youtube video of cow elk also bugling https://youtu.be/bOMUK2ENcg0

I think the game designers decided to greatly exxagerate the vocal level of the animals in order to make the game a little more playable. Without the vocal clues to give you an idea where they are at, you'd have to randomly wander about hoping to find prey by chance or tracking alone.

Speaking of tracking, in real life the tracks don't glow as far as you can see either. In some areas realisim has to be sacrificed for playability.

It has nothing to do with how loud it is, its the wrong sound completly. If you don't know a wheeze from a grunt don't bother commenting.

To be fair this comment makes a lot of sense for gameplay reasons, therefore could we be a little more polite and refrain from flaming cos of an opinion please?

I'm sure we can be a little more civil!

I never said they did. My point was that the game has some odd sounds for the calls that does DO make, which are not realistic, but that the male grunt in game is quite discernible from the female calls that are in game.

This is somewhat true but I don't know what call it was, warning or mating call the doe straight up grunt. I would love if they ditched these new sounds and use female deer sounds from Hunter Classic.

It is shame that they decided to make the game closed and not support modding. This is just one of many aspects of the game that could be customized with a mod. It is not liikley the development will be resourced to tweak every detail closer to reality, but if a game embraces its user base and provides tooling (supported) for modding the community can make the game a lot more valuable.

I've run across some third party tools to extract the ARC files, but haven't played with it. It shouldn't be rocket science to locate and replace the audio resources, but without the vendor agreeing to support modding then every patch could break mods or vice versa.
