Cacciatore vs. the starter shotgun?
Is there any difference in performance between these two? I just unlocked the Cacciatore and of course more shots before reloading is good (esp. when shooting bears at short distance), but any other advantages? Or is it all about which ammo you use (still working towards unlocking slugs).

The basic shotgun can shot the second shot faster and , if you work in the shotgun perk tree can do the both barrel trick (that must be davastating)

Both can shot slugs without changing the barrel (bad simulation point, but...)

Cazziatore weights 0,5 points less and isn't slow to shot, don't misunderstand me, simply the other is faster.

Yeah, what El Turista said. Double barrel fires slightly faster, but only 2 rounds... The Cacciatore is lighter and in a herd... you can deal some damage with those 6 rounds. I use the Cacciatore more now just because it's lighter.

Oh! And the iron shigt is much better, imo, in cazziatore.

I use both. Over/under gives a feel hunting rabbits like if you're shooting clay pigeon. And if you don't have slugs yet you can take a bear with 2 quick buckshot w/o loosing integrity

In general shotguns are very funny to play. You have to place shots properly shooting in the sides and slightly more centered on target than Whit rifles. Forget about frontal shot. You can shot targets on the move. Buckshot tend to produce high bleeding... Enjoyable

I actually like the iron sights on both of the shotguns...

I hate the Caversham's huge and ugly rail like thing, but I suppose it does the work.

Thanks for your comments. I actually noticed the weight as 0.5 less meant that there was room for the moose caller again (the whole beaver/tent thing is causing trouble with what to carry). I thought I noticed a slight delay with the second shot, but I thought I was just imagining. The iron sight in Cacciatore feels a bit strange, but I guess that's just because I'm used to the other one.

I hadn't used the shotgun much until Doc #7 activated and I realized I need to do quite a bit of shooting to get the slugs. At first it was a bit frustrating, but I'm getting the hang of it now and it's actually getting fun trying to get close enough and learning where to place the shots. Got the birdshots already, so maybe I'll try some bunny hunting as well, if I come across a bunch of them in one place (usually seeing 1-3 at a time and not very close to each other).

I think the Caversham is less accurate, too - certainly used to be.
Buck-shot is still under-powered for both, though, so don't risk it on trophy animals or if you don't feel like tracking animals far... (which is always for me).
Birdshot if fab on rabbits, though, but the chance of a pellet-scoring glitch is also present.

FYI, Scythe... The Caversham less accuracy thing was resolved. It's much more accurate than it used to be.

Just take the buckshot broad side to the lungs... Hell, when I first started playing I hit vitals on Bison via the lungs with buck shot. I liked it as a weapon... I always thought it was pretty effective.

Yeah, I might not use it if I think I have a diamond in my sights... back then I wasn't looking for diamonds... I just wanted experience and cash afap.

.

Thanks, mate... i thougt that i was going nuts... the caversham seams prety precise to me.

Shotguns are awassome and diamond givers if you play it right, as you said

Yes, I remember the patch/chat about the shotgun fix but I tested it after and found the spread on the Caversham still greater than the Cacciatore - could just be me, ofc... 0:) It basically still has nothing over the Cacciatore even assuming equal accuracy, imo.

Yes it's fun, but I wouldn't recommend useing it w buckshot on anything you want to be sure of an insta-kill on - just not worth the risk? Also, you can still get scoring glitches with shotguns - for example, changing to slugs (after shooting/harvesting an animal with bucksot) and firing a single shot kill shot can give you buckshot results (multiple hits) on your kill!

IDK... Seems if you pump one or two rounds with the double barrel into the lungs it's not going to be going far.

To avoid the scoring glitches don't scroll down to look past the first 6 hits... If you don't scroll back up and accept the animal you'll get the glitch. I've only had it happen once in over 200 hours. I often switch between slugs and buck shot... I've never had it report buck shot when I hit with a slug regardless of shooting. The issue I experienced it would report the buck shot even if you were using a rifle, bow, or whatever.
