Doc #7 Get a bear with a slug
What is considered a slug? The only slug I see is for the 12 gauge. I am hoping for some more options. I am 3000 points away from getting the 12 gauge slugs from the store. If I need to get slugs for the shotgun, I will be hunting with the shotgun using buckshot for the next month.

The slugs are indeed for the shotgun only.

I had this mission active for a while because I did not use shortguns before getting Doc #7
I had to take it and do hours of shortgun hunting to unlock a slug. I disliked level/XP locks already by that time, but after this I hate them completely.

I don't like "grinding" to much, but if you like you can grind shoting white tailed rabbits with birdshots. It's very funny.

I love hunting with the shotguns. My advice would be to not focus on that mission and go on some enjoyable shotgun hunts and just enjoy them... not seeking a means to a end and just experience them for the experience itself and not the in game "experience" / currency. I'd have a lot of fun trying to get two roe deer at once(they often travel in pairs), since it fires two shots really quickly. Play the game for the fun of it... and you'll have a lot more fun. I beat missions all the time not even trying for missions... just what I was doing lined up with a mission that was currently open.

Just carry the shotgun as a 3rd weapon and change to it when an oppourtunity to use it comes up. I am still after the slug but it will come.

Hunting coyote with shotgun is fun
the slug is a single solid projectile used for a shotgun it has more range than buckshot and birdshot i suggest you use buckshot to start out and go for mainly coyotes you can hit a whitetail twice with 00 and get full integrity you can only shoot it once for blacktail

Sandman, you use the buckshot for bucks -> deer. That was part of my go to loadout for a long time. Slot one, some rifle (270, 7mm), 2 db shotgun with buckshot, Maybe a bow as my 3rd or whatever I was experimenting with.

RESPONSE:
I went to the rope bridge with the buckshot and shotgun. I just slaughtered the deer. Got like 20 deer. The map turned pink in this area. Even got a gold score whitetail with buckshot. My shotgun XP went from 200 to 1700+.

I am using your advice and focussing on other missions. If the opportunity presents itself, I take out the shotgun/buckshot and whack them. I focus on Jackrabbits, Coyoyes, and Deer with the shotgun. I did complete Connor #3, harvest a bull elk with the shotgun. Got within 10 meters and pumped 4 buckshots in him with the pump shotgun.

Getting enough XP to buy slugs will probably take a week or two, but I am off to a good start. Thanks for the advice dude.

You used buckshots in the ropebrigd? ♥♥♥♥... The buckshots have a severe bullet (pellet) drop. Nice skills mate

IRL I never should think on it, but seems that it works for you. Congratulations

My mistake. I meant to say "the area around the rope bridge". Didn't hunt on the rope bridge itself, just the area adjacent to the bridge. Lots of blacktails and whitetails are there. Go there at dusk and hunt into the night to get big scores.
