Mission help - cheela lake, whitetail harvest at night
So i walked/stalked the entire way around the lake, came across a multitude of blacktail, moose, elk and coyote, no whitetail.

I found one whitetail track so followed it but it left the mission target zone.

I went back to my blind at the north side of the lake and patiently waited, using my bleat caller, and waited... waited... waited.

I'm about 6hours into the game night, heading for dawn and not a peep from a whitetail deer.

Surely a mission like this would be at least prepped so you could achieve it, even if it meant a higher difficulty of stalking the prey etc.

But how do I complete it when there simply is not a whitetail deer in the area

Frustrated and tired. suggestions?

South shore is your best bet

South west corner of the area, go there (the beach) and use your lure. Lure every now and then until you heard whitetail. Then wait and back off a bit until the deer get near you.

You must be in the area when you shoot, deer may be outside of the area.

If you cant heard any deers, go out of the area just hundred meters or so and use the lure. Lure until they will follow you. Get back into the area and use the lure again. Once you are in the area, shoot it. I have used the map marker as a reference point so I can tell where the edge of the area is.

There are other similar missions where you are given a large hunting area but there is absolutely zero of that animal! For example, there are one mission where you must shoot a blacktail (the large area is at the south west of the map on the hills) Dont bother go wandering around. Just go the most eastern part, and there near the edge of it, is the only one spot where blacktails have resting area. Cant remember what the mission number is, but keep this in mind for the future.

so these type of side misions could just be encouragement to use the caller more often to lure to that area, the spawns of the animal ya need is rare for that reason

Also make sure you have track mission on. I'm not sure how much it affects, but I nowadays always turn it on first, then enter the area, just in case the mission happens to be one of those where tracking the mission triggers an event that helps completing it.

I am currently camped out in a blind on the south side of cheela lake, its dark, lure in hand. All i've had so far is moose. I have turned on track mission but I wasn't aware that was any more than indicating the area of map. So I sit and wait again!

Thanks for the tips guys. crossing fingers.

I finally got this one, I setup a tent south of the lake, then reloaded my game, and spawned at the tent at night around 01:30 and it was right thier.

This mission got me around a week to complete. Finally saw a group at South East, going towards the high ground. I call them back and harvested 4. ha

So I came up empty handed again last night. After a few game hours of patiently waiting and calling I explored along the southern border of Cheela Lake, calling and stalking in the hopes of bringing something closer. I failed. I will reload the game and try again today.

On a plus note, I managed to find the ever evasive coyote for the 'harvest 2' mission.
