Maybe use a gradient overlay. Use it to effect the vibrancy or the tracks. The old track get less shine and less of the arcing fx.
I was under the impression this is correct.
Still, the colour fade level to indicate new or old tracks sounds like a good idea.
At present, poop seems to be the best indicator of how fresh a trail is - the animals in this game seem to void their bowels almost constantly, so if you pick up a trail for an animal you want to hunt you just follow it a few yards until you find poop, if it says very old I don't tend to bother going further.
