What's the secret to taking a picture that the game will accept?
Got the mission from Doc to take a couple of pictures of Black Bears. Run all over Balmont like an idiot chasing bears to try and get a picture. Got these two and the game didn't accept either one. WTF is the secret?

you just need to be closer & zoom at max, I guess it's hard if you don't have the bear caller yet. Try to prone close when you hear a warning call/see one

With my camera on full zoom I had a photo accepted at 50m but usually, I have to be 40m or less. Instead of running all over Balmont try the following:

Crouch at the very first outpost and head downhill towards the lake. When you can see between the golden type trees ahead use your binos and closely look at the base area of those trees and all trees along the grassy area. Whenever I'm within say 100m I've already been in slo mo crouch for 50m. Then I go prone and slowly creep up on the bear I spotted. Always try to keep a tree or brush between yourself and the open area as you move along the sides of these open areas. Do this between 0800 and 1100 hrs and you should find a bear you can sneak upon before you get to that outpost N or the starting outpost. Once you are within 50m start snapping pictures as you move closer. Many times 2 pics of the same bear will complete the mission.

What I choose to do my first time in the Lake reserve is go to Hopes camp and then continue on up the RR tracks across the Roon bridge to the outpost on the other side. This will give me the bear track mission, which leads to the bear photo mission, which leads to the bear poo missions (there are 2 of those) and of course I also have the blacktail deer track mission. By the time I get to that outpost N or the starting one I've completed all of them before noon.

Hope this helps.:steamhappy:

If there are limbs, grass etc between you and the animal it sometimes helps to illuminate it with the spot from the binos and then quickly take the photo. I've taken photos that were not accepted, then put the camera on full zoom and taken another photo and it was accepted even though I hadn't moved and the animal was in the exact same place. Same deal with regular photo NO GO...Spot and take photo.. Good to go.

Thanks for all the feedback!

I finally got them both within 10 minutes when I stumbled on a bear rest zone southeast of the Roonachee Outpost. Instead of running all over trying to catch a glimpse, I went prone and crept in slow. Got the second one coming in as I was leaving.

I've found 30 to 40 meters working the best for me. Also the mission for another 'special' bear, which is a pain in the ascii for many? My solution, at my highest frustration point, was to charge the bugger snapping photos as I go. Works every time ;)

Pro tip for mr black photo missions. Put tent right next to its spawn point and quick travel there and snap a picture of it before it runs away.

the trick i use is to spot the animal so it highlights, then take the photo

Spamming photos is also good. Unless you personally want a nicely composed screenshot, just shoot off the camera as fast as you can while you run towards the animal (but be fairly close before you do this!). All the photos will be rubbish, but you should get the mission.

Basically, these photo missions seem to be forced archery stalking lessons.

I do also kinda like the idea of having a mission to take a photo rather than shoot something. Although, I have not yet been able to resist taking out my bow after each picture opportunity.

Wonder if I could take a picture of the dead animal? LOL

"HEY Lady, you didn't say it had to be breathin' you just said you wanted a picture of a deer by the lake!"

Talk about doing it the hard way...

I sat in the tower to the north of the lake, watching YouTube videos, and occasionally checking around the lake. Sure enough, I eventually spotted him sitting pretty on that little spot jutting into the lake.

The wind was wrong, so I "spotted" him, set a way point on the icon on the map, Fast Traveled to the cabin west of the lake, then hightailed it back. I crawled up close, but because of the grass, even though I could see him, I couldn't get a shot of him (that the game would accept).

Next thing, he spooked, and took off. Not wishing to give up so easily, I gave chase.

He headed around to the north of the lake, then took off into the bushes.
Shortly after, I found some poo which had "just happened", so I crouched till the next footprint, then crawled the rest of the way. Probably covered 150 meters that way.

And voila! He was taking a rest on the edge of a clearing. He even stood up for the photo-op!
