Don't get me wrong...I've killed many an Elk, Moose and Bear with those weapons. I also spent many hours following blood trails (3.2 km was the longest trail) that I wouldn't have had to do if I'd waited until I had the right class of weapon for use on those species.
Your choice though. If you intend to shoot a moose with the .270 go for the brain (impossible by shooting it in the forehead by the way, you have to go through the back of the head).
What gun should I be using at this stage for those 3 animals then (and which ammo too)? I'm level 15.
If you have wpn pk 2 grab the MK7.62mm rifle (it comes free with the DLC) and you can use it on both black tail and whitetail deer so you only need to carry one gun instead of 2. There's only one type of ammo for it but it is wickedly effective.
I've got a long way to go before I can unlock the .338
Were you saying the MK7.62 is good for Moose, Elk, and Bear, or just Bear? I'm confused with the second paragraph as I never used different guns for Blacktail and Whitetail deer if that's what you're saying.
I do have the MN1890 and the Grelck Drilling Rifle/shotgun combo thing. Would one of those be proper for both Elk and Moose?
Drilling rifle or 7mm, they're both essentially the same thing, and they both work great on all 3 species you mentioned.
Either ammo works fine for those shots, but i personally use the high-pen.
you hit one with a low caliber weapon, he or she, will go down eventually, and you will track him but give him space, might be best to just sit and have a smoke and wait for the purple splotch to appear on the map then go do clean up, but yeah bear go down ok, russian bears, not so much, those you want to use the right caliber and drop them fast and hard, you hit one of those with a .270, you best turn and run for your life, and i bet 90% of the time, you aint running fast enough.
always use the right tool for the job.
