Does anyone hunt geese in this game?
Whenever I feel like hunting geese, I play Classic, even though goose hunting was the one thing I was sure I would never do again in Classic after it was released in COTW. I think that anyone who's hunted them in this game can imagine why. They fly in slow motion and do a barrel roll when they get hit. On top of that, the best weapon to hunt birds in this game is the .22lr, not a shotgun with birdshot. Has there been any word on a goose/duck rework?

No and this needs to be number 1 on dev list even after bugs i really do not understand how they can bring out more content before fixing what was not just in the game but EXTRA PAID DLC

It won't be fixed until we get to pay for dogs.

I bought the DLC at the same time they introduced the invisible goose bug, so I hadn't had a chance to hunt them. Now that that's fixed and the blinds give less hunting pressure, I set up some decoys and have been having some fun with them. I do wait for them to land, though.

The slow-mo flying is a bit ridiculous and I wouldn't mind seeing that fixed.

I'm using the pump 12 gauge with birdshot and it seems to be doing a good job on them. I usually bag at least four. I haven't tried any of the other weapons on them, so maybe the .22 is the better option.

dont know about you all, but i have tons of small plaques at my various lodges that need to be filled. so i set up 40 decoys (always use twice what they recommend just in case the first 20 fail),
and a tri pod in a nice corn field up north, and i am flooding my lodges with geese. yeah we hunt geese in here.

Yeah sure, you can hunt geese if all you care about is getting some trophies, but I for one want the hunt itself to be an enjoyable experience. Also, the fact that a tripod or just laying on top of a hay bale is just as efficient as using a waterfowling blind is stupid.

The .22 will kill them in one hit, and can hit them from longer range. So with them moving so slowly, it's easy to kill at least 5 every time. Also, for some reason buckshot is ethical on geese, so you can use that too.

i hunt geese from time to time but the game does make it a bit hard to enjoy recently.
the cacciatore got some serious animationbugs when pumping (like zooming in an out every pump) and i dont like to have only 2 or 3 shots on the other shotguns.
the geese are still a bit tanky too.

so....yeah ...i can confirm that the .22 might be the best gun to use. its just not what im looking to use when im thinking of goosehunting.

im also seeing only lvl1's and 2's didnt they go up to 5?
Edit: atleast i just saw a 3

when hunting geese and ducks, the only weapon to carry is the italian 6 shot 12 gauge, leave the rest behind, put the scope on it with birdshot and you will always take 3-8 kills every engagement.

Geese have been invisible for some of us since their release. So no I don't get to hunt them...

thats what i did and loved. but like i said, the pumping-animation on this shotgun is terribly broken since 1 or 2 patches. it zooms in and out every pump. atleast when using iron sights. i might test if it also happens when using a scope.

Edit: it doesnt look as broken when using a scope, but its still very annoying

Never hunted geese until yesterday. After they got stealth technology my interest decreased further. But yesterday I discovered that they DO appear after setting up some lures on a straw field.

Is there a trick to make this invisible geese visibly ? Tryed the caller in combination with the plastic geese :/

This DLC was my worst investment on Steam. I really wanted to make this work but what a disaster. I tried for (too) long once, and never went back to it. Waterfowling is pretty bad overall, very arcade-like with all bird fleeing in the same direction in a steady flight, so that you can shoot them with rifles and pistols. Also they drop like rocks when shot, no arc.

i guess the devs can do some work on the geese and ducks for sure, but for the sake of having the option to do a little waterfowling in CoTW i do enjoy the bird hunting. I like hunting over water much more than the fields thouigh, guess that my maritime upbringing. I have done the field hunting but i flat out just enjoy being near the water.

if you want more of a challenge try dropping them while flying, them, not you. lol

the only reason for a dog is retrieval, unless they utilize my own native nova scotia duck toller retrieve, otherwise it would be a waste given that any duck or animal you shoot on the water will float right to your position, thank the stars for the tide. haha. And that comes from a man who has trained hunting dogs all his life.

but why bother with the effort it would take to develop that, risk further bugs for the game as every patch and dlc seems to do, when they are absolutely unecessary.

Having played Classic for over 8 years and having been part of the community there, it is actually quite interesting to see some patterns repeat here. At first all is gold, but then bad features and bugs sneak in and everyone believes these will be fixed at some point.

Classic ended up with a host of bugs (hundreds, in fact), that never got addressed. EW just kept pushing out content and players would play.

Goose hunting in CotW was a complete failure and also many missions and achievements just don't work, and it bugs our minds that these don't get fixed. Until we just get used to the situation.
