Sorry to be nit-picking, but what are these obvious reasons?
I can't say I have a favourite, as all have major flaws, but the one I've used the most was the Argus 8-16x50. With accurate ranging the high magnification allows for well placed shots out to maximum distance and the mil-dots let me know the bullet drop at all distances. This works for me, since I usually go for heart or brain.
Hmm, I don't get bored with specific reticles, as long as they do their job well. I just wish they were done better.
I like the tru-sights on the shot gun. It's just a quicker and cleaner action for close up moving shots and/or charges. If I'm going to use a big caliber gun and make a lot of long shots, I'd probably take the Argus sights. If I'm using the Mosin or the .270 Win then I'd probably have the Hyperion sights on either gun to suit the choice of mid or short range. I love the combo of the small rifle Ascent sights with the .45 airgun for hunting close up in the woods....utterly deadly.
As an all rounder though, I guess the Hyperion works for most situations or than longer range shots. As an after thought, I only have one bow (Razorback) which you get reasonable sites with on purchase....not tried other sights for bows and I don't really carry a pistol so don't have the XP kills to get sights...so far.
The smaller scope is for smaller guns with less firing distance.
I tried using the Argus and that is useless on all but long distance kills.
But the clarity blows as well the field of vision.
IMHO the Hyperion is the only real choice. (if it can be fitted to the gun)
Done a few quick screenshots.
The Helios is a scope for Lever-actions only and looks like this zoomed in at 50M

My vote goes to the Hyperion also.
My vote is Helios.. Which the Nagant should have.

And as it's an old WW2 rifle, technically it would require a "special mount", probably more special than a lever action mount.
Same optics + requires special mount, only makes sense.
Nostalgia is not a good enough explanation / reason as to why.
Maybe that's someone's thing... but it's not mine.
The mount has little to do with what scope is utilized.
Modern scopes can be fitted to nearly any mount design. these days.
I know because I mounted a modern scope on my side mounted 1946 Wards / Montgomery .22 LR / SA rifle.
And it works even better then it did back in the day of its release.
This is 2019 btw... not 1940 ish.
Same here, lever action rifles are used with iron sights only
The zoom levels vary enough to work extremely well from close targets to long range shooting.
The mil-dots can help with leading moving animals. The mil-dots can also assist in determining the distance based on the animals size in the scope. Range finders aren’t as necessary once one gets use to it. (Takes practice)
The scope also provides good visibility unlike other scopes thattens to obstruct a lot of the screen.
