DO tents drive away animals?
Placed some tents as fast travel option for some tripods. they are about 50 m away.
DO animals scare over the tents? As far as ive heard fast traveling doesnt make sounds.

To minimize spooking the animals I place my tents 150 meters or so away from need zones where I expect to find animals. That may be next to a stand or blind I intend to shoot from or it may not be. I may have to crawl or sneak into the stand or blind from the tent, but I've found I have more success if I allow that 150m distance from where I place the tent to the need zone.

You're right, fast travel is soundless, but i've always wondered if the flapping sound from the tent will scare them.

I know if you place one to close to Mr. Blackburn's first spawn area he won't spawn (unless that's been fixed).

Placing and removing tents spooks animals at great distance. Fast travel might spook animals at much shorter distances, not sure whether this is effect of travel itself or just of sudden visual appearance of a hunter near animal

...has never been for me. I land with a thud whether it's the tent or an outpost flag pole.

Fast travel generally clears the area of most animals that I have seen.
Though occasionally the animals will be there waiting for me to land.
Especially the wolves on the Yukon ! ? ~ doh ~

Generally the animals may become agitated by a tent placement.
But they will usually calm down after its been placed for awhile.
Animals weren't spooked nor flee from a stationary tent that I've seen.
But they'd panic and flee when I landed... Most times anyway.

But I have never been able to sneak up on an animal even if the tent was already there.
...they don't generally run off very far and can commonly be called (lured) back in.

Placing a tent will spook animals, so does fast travel. It takes about 2 to 3 minutes (real time) for the environment to reset to normal. This seems to be true for anything that makes sound in the game, running, tripod placement etc.

The flapping of the tent is ambient and will not scare animals whatsoever. I've setup many tripods next to them and never noticed an adverse effect from the tents itself.

You're right, i don't usually fast travel unless i'm done for the day, or have to go make dinner or something else that will keep me away from the game for a while.

Just tried it for fun and there is a thud and the springbok nearby did a warning call.

Thanks everyone for the answers. I will try out what autobot did, since Ive got trouble animals not coming their usual spots. (I placed tents and tripods.
Thanks once again!
The tents themselves no as I have fast traveled in and been stampeded by moose running away.

What does scare them is in fact you entering the scene if you are within 10 M's or start to move and make sound they will run but the tent just sitting there no it won't bother them.

I am not sure though on the sounds the tent makes setting up or removing if that makes enough sound to disturb them.

One extra thought.

I've found need zones, but saw they wouldn't be active for hours. So I've placed a tent close by, and rested till a little before the active time.

And every time I do this, the needs zones despawn. Or at least, they still show on the map, but there are zero active tracks associated with them. No animals turn up.

So I suspect that placing a tent too close to the zone can despawn it if you rest there.

Considering Autobot's comment, it would seem it is the hunter's presence, not the tent itself, that causes the problem.

Both answers suggest the same solution, however... place the tent 150 to 250 meters away.

agreed on this one

Tents won't drive away animals permanently. Once placed, animals won't avoid the tent specifically. I've placed them near need zones right next to my stand and it didn't seem to matter.
