Ok some one please explain me duck hunting.
I can't really understand how it works.
I place a waterfowl blind near the water, and have decoys all around.
I'm literally sitting in a need/resting zone without hunting pressure for all the time range and using the caller.
Today i didn't see any mallard.... and yesterday i catched some but seems i was just lucky.

All the method seems really random. Sometimes i see them flying, i use the caller and they prefer to land in another need zone away with no decoys.
I'm very confused, seems the item in the DLC are just useless, and in general the experience looks like a waste of time.

try the High Lake, place all 20 decoys by the needzone for eating or resting and put down the cover thing, (do this during evening = 19:00- 21:00) use the lure when they close so they land by the decoys and shot away with the Nordin shotgun(birdshot). works really well for me. got around 6-7 ducks in around 30 min

Make sure the cover tent thing is around 20m away for the needzone/decoys

its a great experience and pretty easy too..you need to set it up right tho.

I just sneak up on them and blast away. Pretty easy to do. Don't get much for them though. You get a lot more for rabbits, which are funner to hunt with the shotgun in my opinion.

Are you sitting in a blind? Ducks have good eyesight and won't land if you're not in a blind.

maybe you arent calling right, its not the same as calling animals, with birds you gotta quack your little heart out to get them to come in. once theyve made their passes overhead and you sense they are ready to come in to your set then you can quiet down a bit. also note that with those calls, you can squeeze the trigger quickly and get two or three different sounds, the normal one is the highball quack for attraction which around four quacks together, but if u hit the call just right you can actually get the thing to quack just once and at differening intervals. i found that key to getting the geese to come in flock after flock.

sure they will.

I've killed ducks just laying on the bank inside some brush or tall grass. too much of a bother to rearrange my inventory to take a blind with me.

lake leviathon on far south easy of layton has a rather nice mallard population... and a few nearby blacktail need areas

If you are a good shot you can do duck hunting when they fly over you, I got several that way, keep an eye on where it lands though so ya don't lose track of it

Generally, I can get about 85 ducks or more in 2.5 hours of real time play (05::00 - 18:00 of game play). Many times, I can score 100 ducks or better. I have 3 blinds set up in Balmont. Just move between the blinds until you find the ducks. Most times there are ducks at one or more blinds. I fast crawl to the blinds, once I get 85 meters from the blind to avoid spooking the ducks. Good hunting.

I'm really gettin pissed off at this game. I usually play it to relax but this thing is becoming really frustrating. Today i walked around this lake in belmont and found alot of tracks and some need/resting zones.
I spotted some mallards and approaching them they got scared. So i set up around 10 decoys in that spot and a blind.

I used the caller a lot but never seen mallards flying around.
Then i saw a group of them flying several minutes later, and using the caller they landed in ANOTHER SPOT distant form my blind... WTF

Then i decided to move following them and approaching i killed one. Then using the caller in the same spot did'nt see any other flying around.
Then i spotted another group in the exact opposite side of the lake at around 400 metres.
I moved to them and scared. and then i sit invisible in the spot with other decoys and nothing... never seen a mallard anymore....

So, what i'm doing wrong? What's the point to have a blind and decoys if you have to move around and sneak.
Maybe i'm wrong but i was always thinking that the purpose of them is to lure in the spot and ambush them several times...

Try here. Always lots of ducks. Remember to enter the blind with a crawl at 85 meters away. Call every 30 seconds or so.
KillerBee Jul 15, 2019 @ 7:57am
Mille, I just read your post again. Work on your decoy placement. The area in front of your blind should be open. You need to have an open area for ducks to land. Try 5 decoys to the left of the blind (5-10 meters from the blind). Put the remaining 5 to the right, with a large open area in front of the blind. I am a duck hunter in real life. This layout always works well.

more decoys, set out a drake and the rest hens, i usually do 15 - 20. No guarantee even with decoy's the ducks will land there either. Your blind is too close to the decoys also, you want 20-30m in between.

You scared them, they changed locations. Think of this as more of a simulation game and less of an arcade it sounds like you're describing here. If animals see you they run and don't typically come back, even when called.

Even after shooting them and calling another group in, that only works a few times, at least in my experience, then you won't be able to call them back to that spot. move to another blind like they've posted above.
Mille Jul 15, 2019 @ 9:16am
Ok thanks for the help guys. I'll try to place more decoys in a different position and i'll move the blind away.
Let's see how it goes.
