Anyone experiencing missed shots with the .300?
Over the past week, I've missed several easy shots with the .300, as if I'm shooting blank ammo. These shots have all been aimed well enough that even if the range was off a bit, I'd still have hit some part of the animal. It also seems to happen with only the first shot from the rifle during a session.

This morning, I missed a 90 yard shot on a caribou. My range was set correctly, the crosshair was dead set for a perfect lung shot, I fire... and the caribou runs off without a scratch.

Before I put a post in the bug section, I'd just like to ask if anyone else is experiencing anything similar.

was it standing next to a tree or a rock?

hmm I think I felt the same yesterday, but with 338. Missed some really good shots, like 10 in a row. Then I restarted a game and I think its fine now. Don't know. Maybe it was just extreme unluck and random

I can't recall the other shots, but the caribou was standing in the open, close to a lake shore. There were no rocks around and I'd say it was at least ten yards from any tree. I was in the open, as well.

Yeah, I have suffered that issue too, .300, caribou, by a lake... lol probably the same lake. I was in a tripod stand and I put it down to that because they are relatively new to the game too. Just thought it might be a hit box issue with the tripod and not an issue with the gun.

I gave up on it, way to much recoil, rifle isn't as accurate as I was hoping.

Yes, i have had that as well first times. I thought it was just me to have to get used to the gun.
If you were using the 7mm as well before that, this might be the problem.
Now it works ok with me. but first tries I missed easy shots.
yeah I noticed the 300 is geared for wolves level 3 but I can't even ever remember dropping a wolf in 1 shot with it even at pretty close range.

I'd think the .300 is more advantageous for the larger game. ( Moose/G Bear)

Get atop a tripod as soon as ya hear them snarl.
Don't forget to have your 1st aide kit. As they are likely to get a few bites outta you. Lol
And then go for brain shots if ya want an instant kill.
And you don't need a .300 for that.

I rarely miss unless I forget to set my zeroing.
If ya don't have that perk... I suppose a miss could occur more often ?

terrain and foliage affect the bullets. i get rocks and branches throwing off a shot, you can walk through rocks in Parque and Yukon but no shoot through them....

But a blade of grass making a shot miss? That happened to me with a gemsbok in Vurhonga last night with the 7mm, looked like when you hit a rock, the blade of grass had that dust cloud puff off of it. Hella tough grass in Africa....

What has you thinking it was a blade of grass ?
It was more likely the dirt berm you just fired at. Lol

Unless of course you know there is nothing behind that grass ?
But most times I cannot tell... but I will take that shot anyway.
Could get lucky ? ; )

I'd assume tree limbs and brush might cause some deflection...
But a blade of grass ? doubt that.

Well not at any reasonable distance and capability of the weapon or its projectile.

Nothing to do with perks or skills. it's a class 3 weapon against a class 3 animal and it should be enough to drop them if hit right and with the amount of wolves I have dropped it just always seems it takes more then 1 shot where as a Grizzly it seems I have zero issues dropping on the spot or within a few meters of the hit.

I thought the .300 didn't give 100% integrity with wolves?

You're right my bad I stand corrected and I know why now HA HA I was thinking the Mosin but then I had the class wrong I thought the Mosin was a level 3 rifle but just checking now and it's class 2 no wonder HA HA

A brain or heart shot will bring them down immediately.
Other vital hits simply mean they'll have time to nip at you before they go down. Lol

Rather unrealistic to me... but oh well... it's the game's direction.
These are a super wolf ! ? Lol ...Like the super bull moose...
...built from unobtainium. Not flesh and bones ; )
