Just got killed by a lioness
Found her tracks, followed her for a few kilometres always one step behind, saw her only once as she ran off. Then I heard her growl, I ducked down immediately and shuffled into a bush then started looking around. She growled again, she was close, oh so very close!
I raised my rifle and then suddenly there she was, filling my vision.
One hit from her.
Then another.
I was dead.

Stalk a lion for hours, killed by lion - 10/10 would get killed again

They turn around and ambush you. The trick is to move out to the side about a visual distance from the track, and follow from there.
Well that's the thing see...
I wasn't on her track, I was slightly to the right and when I heard her growl, I moved further right to get into some cover as I'd just hit a small patch of open ground. A few metres in any direction and it was thick bushes all around and she just happened to be behind the one bush I decided to hide in!
Lioness, 1
Me, :steamfacepalm:

yeah thats immersion :)
One of the first comments I ever saw about the Vurhonga DLC was that it wasn't immersive because the lions are no threat to you... maybe that was true upon first release, maybe it wasn't but that isn't the way the game is now (and maybe it never was, the RNG effects can do all kinds of frustrating weirdness)
When I heard that growl I got spooked just like any good horror game, I knew I was done for haha! :steamhappy:

At the first release there were NO lions. It was like hunting in an kids-animal-zoo except for an occasional close encounter with a cape buf..
Lions were added later - after a lot of discussion (Dev did not find it ethical or something alike)

If lions are about, I'll head for the most open patch I can find. Buffalo I don't mind crawling through thick scrub, not grass, but my view on lions is a good fifty metres visibility.
Ah, okay, thanks for the info 😊
I played the game off and on and only bought the the Vurhonga DLC last week (along with the other parks after the Taiga DLC) so I've really only seen them since last week (after all patches & changes etc. etc.)!

@ Hidden Gunman, I understand that. I've started carrying a tripod stand and any time I hear lions too close for comfort, I throw that down as fast as I can and sit it out haha!

Not a bad idea, so do they just leave you alone or do they stick around in the area for a while when you do that?

Also which guns did you use to hunt the lion?

The one time it's happened so far, the lion hung around for some time so I figured I'd draw him in with the jackrabbit lure. He didn't really get too much closer but close enough.
I've been carrying the MN 1890 because I hadn't unlocked anything more powerful (I only got to level 15 earlier this week and just reached level 17 tonight). It's capable of killing lions but I'm not so good as to be able to drop them instantly with it.

Anyway, this lion kept hanging around so I shot him (in the flank because I wasn't confident I could get a clear shot at his head or chest) Got him in the lung and he ran off for a short distance but it was a vital wound so the blood trail was very easy to follow. Whenever I get enough money I'll put him in the trophy house!

But I've found the tripod stand very handy in another situation - I was unlocking map locations as a way to kill time and I was in an area of scattered bushes, trees and rocks near the river when a herd of wildebeast came charging in. One of them did significant damage to me, so I set up the tripod stand and waited 'til they all ran past.
The other benefit is that it gives you full 360 degree vision when you turn around, unlike nearly every hunting blind I've used so far.

Ah the MN 1890, That's the reason why I got the Weapon Pack 2 but I really dislike its reload (Can you even cancel reload?).

I ended up liking the Mangiafico Revolver more from Weapon Pack 2, It also has a pretty bad reload speed and the firing rate is absolutely trash when you aim down sight using it, but if you Meme'd it it's surprisingly a powerful weapon.

You get 3 of the Mangiafico revolver so you could pretty much just carry all 3 of them at the same time and just rapid fire using hipfire and pretty much just overwhelm every animal you hit close range using the .410 birdshots because you'll stun-lock the animals everytime you hit them with it forcing them do their little "Oh that hurt" animation dance and you can pretty much just gun it down by switching to the next revolver instead of reloading.

It's a powerful meme weapon.

Yeah it's pretty realistic and, well, none of us want a certain kill every time, that would be dull...

I got killed by a lioness too that I was not even after. I trying to complete the springbok challenge and had tracked this nice springbok for a while. I was finally in position about 30 yards away. I raise my bow to shoot, then out of nowhere a lioness jumps on me and kills me. What the Heck! From then on I kill every lion I see with the 7mm at 200 yards. If you wipe them out, there won't be any to bother when your hunting. Just get on a hill and wipe out the whole pride. They are super easy to kill with the 7mm.m at 200 yards or more and they just stand there or walk while you put them all on the ground.

See a lion, kill a lion. No more getting ambushed for me. LOL!

Keep that mentality in the video game though we need lions.
