I wasn't on her track, I was slightly to the right and when I heard her growl, I moved further right to get into some cover as I'd just hit a small patch of open ground. A few metres in any direction and it was thick bushes all around and she just happened to be behind the one bush I decided to hide in!
Lioness, 1
Me,
When I heard that growl I got spooked just like any good horror game, I knew I was done for haha!
At the first release there were NO lions. It was like hunting in an kids-animal-zoo except for an occasional close encounter with a cape buf..
Lions were added later - after a lot of discussion (Dev did not find it ethical or something alike)
I played the game off and on and only bought the the Vurhonga DLC last week (along with the other parks after the Taiga DLC) so I've really only seen them since last week (after all patches & changes etc. etc.)!
Also which guns did you use to hunt the lion?
I've been carrying the MN 1890 because I hadn't unlocked anything more powerful (I only got to level 15 earlier this week and just reached level 17 tonight). It's capable of killing lions but I'm not so good as to be able to drop them instantly with it.
Anyway, this lion kept hanging around so I shot him (in the flank because I wasn't confident I could get a clear shot at his head or chest) Got him in the lung and he ran off for a short distance but it was a vital wound so the blood trail was very easy to follow. Whenever I get enough money I'll put him in the trophy house!
But I've found the tripod stand very handy in another situation - I was unlocking map locations as a way to kill time and I was in an area of scattered bushes, trees and rocks near the river when a herd of wildebeast came charging in. One of them did significant damage to me, so I set up the tripod stand and waited 'til they all ran past.
The other benefit is that it gives you full 360 degree vision when you turn around, unlike nearly every hunting blind I've used so far.
I ended up liking the Mangiafico Revolver more from Weapon Pack 2, It also has a pretty bad reload speed and the firing rate is absolutely trash when you aim down sight using it, but if you Meme'd it it's surprisingly a powerful weapon.
You get 3 of the Mangiafico revolver so you could pretty much just carry all 3 of them at the same time and just rapid fire using hipfire and pretty much just overwhelm every animal you hit close range using the .410 birdshots because you'll stun-lock the animals everytime you hit them with it forcing them do their little "Oh that hurt" animation dance and you can pretty much just gun it down by switching to the next revolver instead of reloading.
It's a powerful meme weapon.

See a lion, kill a lion. No more getting ambushed for me. LOL!
