ATV-Convince Me
So, I never use the ATV. For me, I’ve always enjoyed walking the maps and slowly uncovering outposts while hunting and finding need zones.

I get that slowly “unlocking” a map makes multiplayer difficult when you have two outposts unlocked and join a map where everyone is far away with all/most outposts unlocked, but multiplayer has always been secondary for me.

I can see that traveling quickly for multiplayer or to get to a mission site would work for the ATV, but what about just hunting?

Long story short, aside from those situations I just mentioned, how do you use the ATV to actually hunt, if you do at all? Or, is it just what I said above?

The ATV isn't nearly as bad for scaring away animals as people say. As long as you're headed to a need zone, you can ride the ATV directly there at the beginning of the need time for that area. Once you're there, set up your stand right next to the ATV and start calling. Don't worry, your vehicle won't scare animals as long as it's off. The ATV can help identify multiple need zones because you can still see tracks when on it. This way you cover more ground and get more information for later hunts. And of course the ATV is the best way to get to each map point quickly for the free 100xp per marker. You can easily get to level 5 or so without shooting any animals except the free tutorial ones given on each map.

Also I've gotten a bunch of free kills by riding the thing around. Sometimes it spooks deer into getting stuck on bushes or it makes them run up a steep hill they can't really climb so you'll get a free shot on them before they can escape.

If you re more a slow go hunter and don't care about unlocking outposts fast then the ATV is pointless EXCEPT that without it you can't get some of the discounts for having all the DLC's and such. but in general I have the ATV and except for when I am using it to unlock outposts it just sits in my storage unless I need to reach a spot faster which is rare.

Things I use the ATV for myself:
- discovery of points of interest
- find some new need zones in unexplored or less-explored areas before trying to hunt, especially important if you want to clear a mission that is in an area you haven't spent much time in
- travel to known need zone before or around the beginning of the timer or to go there and drop a tent

Overall, I like having it. It's not required, but it helps condense the time requirement on a bunch of things.

the newness and fun has worn off. And I rarely use it.
However it did come in handy for opening the Yukon map more quickly.
Plus it really attracts wolves on the Yukon if ya want that...
Probably better then the current distress callers.
I got nailed a few times by wolves opening up the Yukon map. Lol
* mostly in the western regions.
The PC keyboard is rather a pain for operating the quad... as the control kinda blows.
...but at least it's faster then running to quickly open a reserve.
But if you're in no hurry.... and the DLC seems costly... I'd probably disregard the quads.
One will harvest way more animals along the way to the point you intend to hunt.
I personally feel the Tent DLC is the most valuable tool I have.
And I carry one with me always. ('cause I hate hunting in the night)
And can access my backpack/store anytime/anywhere.
Couldn't do that in RL where I lived and hunted. (USA/Minnesota)

Try the stone circle mission in parque fernando w/o ATV, it will take you 5 years to complete.

As a map opener it's great, I do use it a fair amount on Vurhonga to get to high ground to see what is around, and then leg it from there.

I prefer to walk, I hunt and discover need zones while doing so

The ATV is great for setting up your Tents, unlocking points of interests etc.
Using it to hunt is a bad idea.

Same here.
Nice info! Thanks! I already have all the dlcs, just never really used the ATV to do anything. I might give this method a shot!

I use them for missions and stuff, like I'm not really going to hunt on my way to a mission.

Last time I used ATV to uncover all outposts and POIs fast I ended up with having over 24k animals scared by noise in my hunter stats, with just 500-700 scared by scent or visual

It alerts animals but they'll always return to their assigned need zone as long as there isn't too much hunting pressure and as long as it's the right time of day. That's why I search for need zones on the ATV and try to hit a bunch all at once on the same day.

I do this sometimes as well if I don’t have a long time to play. Also, animals do come back quite quickly if you call them in. I’ve shot several nice animals within a minute or two of riding in on the ATV
