How to deal with a Wolf pack attacking you ?
So I'm on this mission 'Tech Support' and need to get a broken collar. I jumped on an ATV and drove out there. A whole lot of noise suddenly behind me....oh gosh... a pack of wolfs, maybe even 20 of them chasing me down and when I drove by the collar laying on the ground they jumped on me on the ATV and of course I got killed. How to deal with this one ?

Don't slow down? Don't use the ATV at all? Go back to the area and hunt like you are a cat burglar inside someones home. Kill 2 or 3 of them and the rest of the pack will go away long enough for you to complete the mission. I do know the feeling though. I was on an ATV headed to unlock an outpost in Vurhonga when a lion sprang out of some tall trail side grass. Took me right off the ATV with an island sized paw and needless to say...I was dead before I hit the ground while the ATV rolled merrily on down the trail.

They killed me as well the first time I went there but they didn't show up when I went back on that mission. When another pack jumped me later (while I was on my ATV), I led the pack to the nearest water and drove my ATV into the lake. I hopped off, turned, and killed three of the pack that were snarling at me from the shore. The rest ran off.

Grab the 454 if your going into the wolf zone.

Good to know that getting into the water will work the same way it does on Cape Buffs.

This!

be quiet they don't like noise.

Crouch walk or crawl near them, if they growl stop. equip the 12g with buck shot, if htey keep growling back up, if hey bark stand up and back up, shoot them as they appear, use a medkit or 2. harvest the bodies.

Or shoot them from a distance, then call the rest back in (they're usuall in a pack with 5 or 6 that i've encountered), shoot another, repeat.

Carry a tripod, and when they move on you, set it up. I've done that twice now, and both times it scared them off.

That's a very gamey, tongue in cheek tactic, and I only tried it to see if it worked, and it did...

Hard core OP......it sounds like you're playing The Long Dark !! I bought the Yukon dlc but, I'm only just starting out from new. I don't think I've got enough gun points yet to buy a gun that will kill a wolf. I thought I might have a look in the Yukon though; just for the buzz!

Yes! Tripod and then roast those gooses

I drove to a nearby outpost, they bugged just outside the outpost and I killed them all. .454 is also a must for defense, against anything really...
They way i see it, thats 5 easy harvests!

I carry the 45.70 for wolves. Less shots in the chamber than the Rhino but it reloads more quickly. I just took out a pack of 6 before coming here. I was using the soft rounds and dropping the wolves fast.

the game crashes so often... that's the least of the problems.
but yeah... loud noises like the atv seem to draw them to you. Lol

Oh and since the fawn/rabbit distress callers barely work.
You are their best lure. BAIT ! Lol

I've set up a tripod, then hooned around on the ATV in circles around it to attract them, then jumped off and sprinted for the stand.

Sadly, it worked.

I don't normally act like a ♥♥♥ when I'm hunting, but when I do it's for COTW wolves...

I wish you could bait other creatures like you can with wolves. Imagine how easy some mission requests would be if you could bait the targets that it claims are present in the area rather than having to visit the location doesn't have their need zones 10 times until you finally get enough of them as travelers.

Bait stations would be nice. Create a Food need zone for a creature.

Lol

some youtube video has a guy placing a Tripod and getting on board when the wolves come snarling. Seems to work... if yer agile enough to do that.
But of course the game response is kinda slow.
So ya might get a bite or two taken outta yer hide in doing so.

But hey... that's what the 1st aide kit is for. ; )

I like your approach. Might even give that a try : )
But it likely only works well in the burnt forest.

Try it in the woods yet ? What's " hooned " ?
