Yukon DLC ruined by stupid wolf AI
The Yukon DLC is hard to enjoy because the wolf AI is far too aggressive and unrealistic. Wolves will chase you for miles and miles and have unlimited stamina. Apparently they can keep up with an ATV at flat chat for over 2 miles and the entire pack will kite you all over the map. The minute you get off the ATV they will maul you to death, they are unafraid of gunshots and unable to be taken down with a .243 round to the vitals. It's so stupid.

Completely agree on that and there are way too many wolf packs, i'm fine with being chased for a few hundred meters if I'm running away but on an ATV down hill? lol come on now... any wolves would give up after 2 minutes and think it's not worth the energy or effort.

They need to patch this and reduce the amount of wolves and reduce their aggressivity a bit.

i got chased by a bison ..i was on the quad and gunning it. it chased me all the way to a hut and then tried to climb the steps to get me. i thought this is a game where you do the hunting ...not become the hunted

Sorry, but that is way not always like this.
It is sometimes.

Yesterday I watched a video, where someone followed/chased the wolves first bei ATV, and the by foot and they always ran away. further and further and further. the wolves did not have any interest at him.
A funny situation came up, as he chased the wolves and suddenly a fox too ran behind the wolfes. He drove beside the fox for a time and talked to him, whether he too is chasing the wolves.
Very funny!

If you wanna watch it:

At about 4:50 there is the part with the fox. :steamhappy:

LMFAO! Not sure if this post was written for comedy, but it sure made me laugh..
If you are going around Yukon with a .243, that's a problem right there.. pack something bigger.. like the .300. If you focus on taking down the Alpha, the others will retreat.

ditto that.

nothing to shoot with a .243. I carry a class 3, a class 4, and a shotgun in Yukon, that's all you need.

Wolves aren't bad, i just finished the mission last night to harvest 3. i took out the whole pack, then found 2 more packs on my way to my marker, and i only died once cause i was stupid and ran to a need zone to find the first pack, if i would have been smart and equiped the medkit i just bought to start that mission i wouldn't have died, i had shot all 5 and the last one killed me before it dropped. His/her carcass fell on my dead body :)

They hate noise.

Hunting them is pretty easy, crouch walk or crawl when you get near, listen for their growls, then stay still don't move and you'll see them walking around, blast one. call the rest back with the distressed fawn call, blast another, repeat. if they turn on me i use the 12g buckshot. They'll face you, put their head down and growl before they charge. Easy to kill them then, one shot with the buckshot head on like that and you get 3 or 4 shot usually in the heart. and the 12g buckshot does give you 100% in all 3 scores this way.

Yes wolves aggression need to be toned down a little, but it's not a game breaker, play smart, respect the wolves, it's quite easy to take them out and go about your business.

Does Treestand or Tripod Pack help ?

Maybe they gather around your tree .,. easy to shoot ?

I am thinking of buying Yukon but also I am afraid the map is not that chilled because of too many wolves ....

The wolves took me by surprise when I first started in the Yukon, but I find their aggressiveness refreshing and exciting (Grizz too!, Lol). I've also found the proper weapons and Med Pack to be the smart way to survive in the Yukon. I love that now I have to pay even MORE attention to my surroundings while I hunt. If I want an easier hunt then I go back to an easier DLC, like Hirsch or Layton.

Alpha wolves don't exist in real life and I hope they don't exists in that game. Alpha wolves are a myth. Why does everyone talk about "Alpha wolves"?

I killed several wolves this morning, not 1 tried to attack me... Not seeing a problem. I was on foot.

Been wondering the same thing. pop culture/tv/movies push it on everyone so it becomes a thing.

Real wolves don't live in packs like media has told us, with the Alpha, the Beta, and so on. They live in families, typically the 2 adults and their pups. The pups follow the parents, which is where people usually misinterpret the alpha dominance as the pups grow up and look more like adults. once the pups are grown and "move out" they'll establish their own pack.

I had a pack run past me and not pay a bit of attention last night, never noticed they make a panting noise when they run, until one almost trampled me cause i was laying down to not be noticed. I tracked them, called them and killed them all, not one attacked.

why would you carry a .243 on that map in the first place ? theres not a single animal that its useful for.

i think the wolves are perfect atm. they attack very rarely and if they do, its a cool confrontation and easy money. you can also just kill the alpha if you are not able to handle the whole group. the rest of the pack has a high chance of running of at that point.

use the 7mm/bow/drilling/crossbow if you are a good shot, if not you can use the rhino revolver for a far easier time.

you could also learn from your experience and dont use an ATV in wolf country now that you know that that'll get you in trouble.

because that is how it works in this game. theres an alpha in every pack. its the biggest animal in the group and it runs at the front / tends to confront you first.

I'll take over-aggressiveness as opposed to under-aggressiveness like what they did to the black and brown bear. Personally, since it's a game, I prefer the predators to be at least a tad more aggressive than what would be realistic.

One thing I will say is that the Wolves really really hate ATVs with a murderous passion lol then again there's really no reason to use the ATVs once you get all of the outposts/lookouts unlocked.

I agree with the OP. Was looking forward to Yukon, but it feels more like a killing simulator than a hunting reserve. I probably won't be returning to it often unless they add Dall Sheep or anything along those lines. Bison and Harlequin are pretty cool, though. I also love the changing weather effects. That's about the only positive takeaways I have unfortunately. Oh, lastly, the story missions were short and awful. Worst story of any reserve yet; it felt rushed.

I was very happy to hear, on the stream Tuesday, that it's unlikely they are going to buff or nerf the agro of the wolf AI.
