Can anyone tell me why this shot failed to drop this deer?

I've watched multiple videos where folk bring down animals where they stand with a shot like this. Yet this got a "flesh wound" blood splatter, and 0% QK Bonus.

Did I do something wrong?

you shot too high on the vertebrae

Far as i know, a vartebrae shot is not a quick kill shot anymore, they changed it a couple of patches back. Now i go for lungs/heart or brain for quick kill.

That shot only counts as a flesh wound now. Aim lower and go for lungs.
yeah spine shots USE to be an instant kill but no longer.

one thing I do not agree with though is how can a spine shot animal run over 250m's? I get this sometimes with spinal shots where an animal with a destroyed spine can somehow run forever. They need to seriously fix that!

I know, right?

I was watching videos 12 to 18 months old. I'd say the detection ability of the animals has been turned up a lot. I spook things while sneaking way outside of ranges these guys were standing and taking shots from.

yes you did something wrong ,you used gamma rounds and gave the buck super power enabling it to run miles without a spine

Absolute B.S. I knew when they were talking about changing it that we would end up with a farcical result. All they really needed to do was take away the integrity and quick kill bonus for the spine shots and leave the more realistic instant immobilization result intact.
That would have had the same effect of discouraging the spine shot fest they were so concerned about.
But hey. Thats only one of the Foobar issues they have.

Well... it still works...

But you're right, how can an animal move after a shot like that?

yeah when I started about 2 years ago I could kill an animal at 200M's + and then line up several more before they spooked enough to run but now you drop one at that range and their off for the moon!

Yes you can still get spinal that instant kill but they are rare compared to what they use to do.

Dan the man Boone has it right they should have just the integrity away or something and at least that would discourage that sort of shot but you would not have to go traipsing all over hill and dale in or to harvest an animal that should have legitly dropped on the spot!

Not to mention that this shot, if it misses everything but the vertebrae (no cord) will count as a flesh wound.

Good luck tracking a large animal down before the tracking mechanism bugs.

You hurt a bad bone, bullet should broke a spine to immobile an animal. Best aim on side of animal and always am for lungs/heart its most ethic and most safe shot . Other's will make animal hurt and wound for long or broke trophy [that's why hunters in RL don't shoot animals into head] .

That's how it should be. the insanity is for the animals not to run after being shot at. Unless you're using a bow, then that's just a stupid shot at that range.

Now when you use bow they run almost as much as if you shoot with rifle.
I think the "silent" effect was better in classic.
