theHunter: Call of the Wild™
Pros and Cons for the TOBII EYE TRACKER please.
I only play this game and was considering getting the above but rather expensive at £145. Can you guys help with your experiences?

Thanks Agima - good info about the Truck Sim as well.

How can such a device cause motion sickness? I don't understand this, if it only tracks where you are looking at....

I'm asking all this because I am pondering about getting the eye-tracker since weeks...

It really depends on the user. Things is the head or eye tracking simulate movement. Our brain is wired in the way that when you move your eyes or head, it expect something to happen in a specific way, and while technology in Tobii, TrackIR or VR headset have come a long way, it's nothing like our brain is expecting things to be.

So, for certain people, you get sickness motion since screen movement is not what your brain is expecting. It's really a human factor versus the technology used.

Thanks again for the explantions!
Well, a couple years back I bought TrackIR. Since this thread is about tobii and I don't have it, I was not going top comment. But I see recommendations for trackIr sprinkled in.

I bought trackIr for use in my flight sims. It was supposed to really increase the immersion. The problem is, the whole idea is flawed. The idea is that when you turn your head to the left or right, your view changes accordingly. Makes a lot of sense, right?

Well.... no. Your monitor is fixed in front of you. So when you turn your head to make the head tracking system know you want to look left, your eyes move in the opposite direction because you are still looking at the fixed screen.

It is not fun at all. It doesn't increase the immersion, but it does increase the discomfort, eyestrain, and introduces jerkiness because of head movement. Yeah, you can minimize that by holding your head still.
In other words, for flight sims, it only makes sense if you can afford (or are willing to invest in) a triple-monitor setup - and huge ones, that is...

That's why I pointed out in the PRO's why Tobii Eye tracking feature (that will be in the end combined with head tracking too) feels way more natural than TrackIR head tracking only. With Tobii, you can use your eyes to make your character head move (left/right/up/down) with the configuration that you feel right for you. Faster or not, sensitive or not, at what degree angle, etc.

@blackwaterturner Tobii Eye Tracker is fairly clever device, but it came with great caveat: Fairly large numbers of users have Sea/motion sickness while using it. I used to have one some time ago, at best I was able to use it for maximum time of 20 minutes until it turned very unpleasant. Honestly its somehow waste of money for majority, better sppend it on somewhere else. Jack

The same could be said about TrackIR 5 and VR headsets. Some users get sick, while many other don't.

I'm using Tobii 4C and properly configured, I'm not experiencing any motion sickness and I'm playing many hours in one session.

I have never heard of any player getting sick from using TrackIr so have you got links to any information about players experiencing sickness from using it?
I used the Tobii eyetracker too.

The pros:
Looking and headmovement of the hunter is so much better.
If you look in a dark or bright area the brightness will adjust automaticly.
If you see an animal and you use your binocular or scope, you will automaticly aim to the looking animal.
The immersion of the game is really strong with the eyetracker.

The cons:
I find you need high FPS (60-90) to really enjoy this feature. If you have low FPS, the looking isnt smooth and u will get a little sickness.
Most important thing with Tobii is that you need a consistent frame rate of at least 75 fps or else it gets a bit wonky.
I've got about 45-60 fps and it's OK. But the more you have the smoother the experience will be.

Search on Google, plenty of reports about that. VR, Tobii, TrackIR have all the potential to cause motion sickness to certain people.

I should have done that before posting so I apologize for that.
The general thinking is that lower frame rates tend to increase the chance of motion sickness.
