Birdshot or Buckshot .... same result
I grabbed the shotgun and some buckshot for the first time and went hunting Roes and Fallow on Hirsh in a concentrated effort to advance my Exp to the point where I could unlock the pump action.
With over 50 kills at between 8 and 30m, every single kill was from a flesh wound only, all zero integrity. Along the way, in an attempt to cut down on the run distance, I started double tapping every animal as it picked itself up from the ground. Then , as I had unlocked the birdshot I popped a packet of ten in my baggy and shot a couple of foxes as well. Still only flesh shots and no integrity.
Of course what happened next was that I forgot to swap out the birdshot and ended up shooting some deer with that as well.
Not one tiny bit of difference. Still only flesh wounds, no integrity and only running about 50m with two shots in them.
It would appear that the buckshot and birdshot are performing exactly the same.
Laughable. One should hardly expect to kill a fallow deer with birdshot.

Having hunted with buckshot occasionally when stalking Rusa in real life in thick cover, I can categorically state that buckshot will certainly penetrate into the chest cavity out to 30m.
All the animals I have shot with buckshot hit the dirt like they had a Kenworth truck dropped on their heads. Rusa are nearly three times as heavy as roe deer. One would expect a roe deer shot with a load of buckshot at 8 to 10m to be picked up and thrown another 10m out.

You are right. Buckshot is not only woefully underpowered, it's also bugged so it doesn't give integrity. It's been like this for months. Still no fix, unfortunately, although the devs mentioned that they are working on fixing the integrity issue.

Yeah, a single shot of birdshot, broadside within 20 meters will drop a roe with quick kill and integrity, usually. But, you have to get a good shot. Same with buckshot and blacktail, again usually within range and full broadside.

Shotgun loads, with the exception of slugs, relays on blunt damage and blood loss not penetration that’s why the “flesh wound” tag.

Unfortunately, while buckshot drops a fallow deer straight away (within range and broadside), it does not give any integrity, even though fallow are classed as 2. Birdshot on fallow will not give quick kill at all unless you shoot a few rounds thus sacrificing integrity. I’ve tested it extensively. No way to use shotguns on fallow as it stands now, unless you don’t want quick kill/integrity.

Another thread pointing out the issues with terminal ballistics and the wonky "integrity" system.
I'm laughing so hard right now!

For YEARS I was advocating these topics and fanbois shouted me down. Now finally more people are speaking up.

On a related note, while not as serious, both buckshot and birdshot mess up our accuracy percentages in our Codex. It annoys me to no end. Every pellet from the shot seems to be tracked and if you hit or miss then you'll see your statistics go all haywire. One pull of the trigger should count as one hit or miss; they need to dramatically rework both buck and bird. I refuse to use them in their current state unfortunately. It's disappointing because I feel like a dirtbag hunting ducks in this game with a .22 every time.
I’m a fan, but I’ve been requesting a rework of shotguns and integrity forever. Others will still argue against it for some reason, usually to stir the pot, but I’ve never seen how it will do anything more than make the game have more variety and reliability.

It always baffles me when people defend the current state of shotguns. Some people must just harbour a special hatred for them...

For hunting airborne ducks the best weapon in the game is the .22lr. Why?
And why can't buckshot be effective to a range of 35m or so, slugs to about 75m. Rifles would still be the better choice, but we would have another fun, realistic weapon to hunt with. I really don't see what anyone could not like about this.

Because Hollywood taught the developers that shotguns spread like crazy affter 10m and you won't hit anything at all ;)

The first and only time I used buckshot I hit a deer in the chest from 30 or so metres away, and it died instantly. Ended up registering as something like 6 or 7 hits with 0 integrity. When I checked my shotgun accuracy it was and still is 900%. So it's obviously a bug, and while it's being fixed I guess none of those things would be a huge deal breaker, but the main problem was that I only received 2 shotgun xp for the kill. After checking to see how long it would take me to get up to slugs, I put the shotgun away and haven't used it since.
