Use scent eliminator or not...
Just read a post here from May 2018 discussing duration of scent eliminator. There have been lots of patches since then and the scent eliminator issue seems ignored. I'm curious what it would be like hunting without it. Could any of you guys that don't use it at all tell us your experience and how you manage to hunt without it?

Got to say that I'm still wondering if it works at all. I had a go with it for a while but now I don't bother. I'd rather carry the appropriate caller and scent than use the scent masker. If you're down wind, you'll probably be okay without the eliminator...also, it's pricey for something that leaves you wondering if it works or not !

Pricey is right when u have to reapply every 2 mins cuz u don't know how long it will last. That's using an extra 12 more than the 30 game time minutes it states in inventory. But when u say scent mask are u saying u use the actual scent lure to also mask your scent. I would like to know if that works or not. Oh dry man just re-read your post that u send THEN use masking instead of THAN but still wondering how much scent lure might act as a mask. Any ideas?

never had much success with it. i know it doesn't totally eliminate your scent, but when laying in the brush downwind of the animal with a black visibility bar and they spook at 30m, just like if I hadn't have used it, doesn't make it seem worth the inventory slot.

I play with no HUD and no tracks so I'm always mindful of the wind direction by watching the particals move though the air. I have found that a much better way to stalk my prey rather than use the scent eliminator, plus it's just too expensive.

When I say 'scent masker', I mean eliminator. As to, does the scent lure mask our scent...man, I have no idea. I guess, since scent lures are half the price, so it's two for one in cost to find out scent lure vs. the scent eliminator.

Agreed about the expense, and I think that until the devs work out the duration programming, if ever, lol, I am going to start heading out without it. I guess although I do watch wind direction, i have probably avoided trying to get downwind alot of times relying on the masker. Got a little lazy. But I have seen way too many times how animals that were holding back will suddenly burst forth like freed from cage as soon as the eliminator was sprayed. I know it works and don't like having to go without, but without the timebar like in Classic, and because we know for sure it doesn't last for no 30 minutes, I am forced to consider the expense.

My experience is, that the spray reduce the smell and so animals spook a little bit later ... but I dont use it, the effect is not safe,

I always go hunting with the wind in my face or from the side (perpendicular), actually this is the first thing I am thinking of before I start hunting and plan my way (I always in motion, I dont like sitting)

after some time, wind has changed and I have the wind in my back, I change the stalking direction, because now there is only a very little chance, spray or not ...

if the target is worth the time and the effort, I go round till I have an acceptable angle to the wind

in my experience, it helps to not spook them at 50m+. Below that and it won't matter.

I have always been an avid user of the scent eliminator in the Classic. I enjoy hunting from tree stands, towers, and setting in bushes. In my opinion the scent eliminator in COTW is 100% ineffective. I have tried using it a lot. Spraying it over and over when the wind is at my back. Animals are blowing out at 100 yards at times and very seldom come in closer the 50 -75 yards. I am not buying any more of it until it gets fixed.

If you check out your Hunter Profile it will tell how many animals have been scared by hearing, sight and smell. I use the eliminator all the time and my scared by scent is quite low.
I am not a 'Hunter' , I just play the game for 'fun' . Have been playing coming up to 1900 hrs. I have 6 Diamonds and 182 Golds. I tend to play the missions in all the reserves.

I feel ya Maniac, normally I don't know how guys hunt without it, but until fixed, well I suppose I'm about to find out. And Blackwater I'm not sure if that statistic keeper is a good way of measuring masking success. For example when I'm going to certain culling spots, or harvesting afterward, I don't worry about noise or what I spook so my numbers would show high in spite of my always using mask and being extremely aware when I actually hunt.

Yeah confirmed, scent eliminator is utterly broken.
Funky Stunt Oct 9, 2019 @ 2:11pm
Given we should stalk upwind, and there's still no scent indicator - it's going to remain the guess work it always has been.

If ya'got it, use it I guess. Roleplay if nothing else. Wasted slot and money otherwise.

I use it, but my preference is to crawl in low on animals. If nothing else, it makes me feel safer crawling onto buffalo.
