The 270 is overkill for some animals, wont get 100% integrity.
P.S. Don't shoot moose until you get at least .270
P.S.S. Yes, most beginners will still go for polymer ammo
Though, with the DLC's... I'm usually carrying the Mosin or the 30-06 unless I'm bow hunting. Or, I have out the .22, Rabbit Hunting. Got my 1st Diamond the other day, White-Tailed Jackrabbit with a score of 995.
I'm saying this as a veteran player with over 700 hours in game and maxed out. Upgrading the weapon should be first priority along with callers. A free softpoint will take down an animal just as easily as a poly tip if you hit the animal properly.
But while a poly will take down even a moose you really want a stronger weapon to handle the bigger game that gives you more cash for the bang
If starting on a map like... Layton for example. You're set on everything you need. Scent Eliminator, and Deer Callers. Predator Caller for Coyotes unlocks fairly quick with a cheap 6k for purchase. Leaving only needing a caller for Moose / Predator for Bear and an Elk caller. Which all unlock at fairly high rank.
.243 is excellent for Blacktail and Coyote, good with Whitetail if shot is accurate. Polymer just makes it even better in this regard.
.270 is already owned, it's in storage... so you can equip it as soon as you go to an Outpost.
________________________
If you own the DLC... you can hunt every animal in Layton, simply with just the purchase of ammo and of course the callers as they unlock.
.22LR - Ducks and Rabbit
7.62X54R - Ranging from Coyote to Whitetail Deer
30-06: Blackbear and Elk
9.3X74R is excellent for Moose.
I actually usually just skip the 270 and save it for later, since you can use the 243 polys for the majority of what you can use the 270 for (albeit the 270 is certainly a better gun).... and focus on the 7mm as the second gun. Although now, the way the 30.06 is, if I started over again I think I'd skip the 7mm and get the 30.06 since it's essentially a better version of the 7mm (at least the way it is in the game). But that's only IF you have WP3. I'm talking about someone who's starting fresh w/o any DLC weapons. The order of things changes a bit if you have all of the weapon packs.
Starting the game: FRESH
.243: Starting Rifle
12Ga Shotgun: Inventory
.357 Revolver: Inventory
Roe Deer Caller: Inventory
Deer Bleat Caller: Inventory
Deer Grunt Caller: Inventory (though, this one may be dlc equipment... not sure)
Scent Eliminator: Inventory
.270 Stradivarius: Storage
Yeah but unless they are giving this away now this was an earned rifle that new players won't get as was the reward for the community event when HC came out. So most new players won't have this just what you had listed minus the Stradivarius.
No I believe this is an ingame caller not DLC as I don't remember having to pay anything to get it.
