I have the skill to make scents stronger, and that still doesn't help. callers are the way to go.
That said, I don't really like the scents because I've often put a lot of work into getting myself downwind. I always find myself using the callers in preference. all in all, I think that I've only used the elk and Musk scent sprays; usually for a mission.
Perhaps I should give the upwind, scent spray hunting a fair trial, although I think it would be of little effect with pigs. Certainly, whenever I am upwind of deer, they often smell and run before I can sight up a good clean shot.
I never hunt without them myself and have found them vital in many instances out there. And when i hunt without them, say if i ran out, I find that I do not get the results which i am used to getting.
Lots of times i have been trying to get that elusive bull to come out from behind a bush, which would never have happened without the accessory. lots and lots of times i have been in a stand waiting for that big male to come out after the herd of does gathered below me, to have them all suddenly scatter for no reason which told me that my eliminator had just worn off.
and i have tested this many times, because the danged eliminator doesnt have a timer, and certainly doesnt last as long as it is supposed to last, so i have often thought about going without it, but IMO, the way i hunt anyway, I just cant hunt without it.
I then head back a ways to find cover.
Then I call in the animal.
Once the animal gets close, it will head to the scent.
If you did it right, the animal should give you a good broadside shot.
IMO scent lures should have greater range and even higher duration in order to give them a real purpose.
