Going unconscious
Hi there! I was wondering what happens when you go unconscious. I was hunting an egg white or an albino wolf. I shot it and rest of the pack killed me before I had a chance to Taxidermize it. I came back to the spot where I killed the white wolf and I found nothing. Do animals despawn after going unconscious? Thank you for your answers in advance.

What I do typically is just as I die I pull up the map quickly and put a pin pointer on my spot that way it marks where I was so easy to find it again.

But that said there is a known tracking issue where tracks up and vanish and I have even seen animals just up and vanish so perhaps this is what happened here? Sometimes also you get no tracks at the shooting spot but tracks might show up elsewhere like I had a bear do that to me yesterday shot and killed it but the first track for the bear I was able to find was 125M's from where I shot it and nothing leading up to the first spot like the bear jumped 125M's away!

Also tip if you missed taxidermy of an animal you can go to your lodge and then in the manager you can recover the last animal that you forgot to taxi.

SPECIAL NOTE This last animal gets over written if you kill another animal it will only hold one in protected status for recovery. So it you killed a diamond and forgot to taxi it then killed another animal the diamond would be lost where as if you killed the diamond and forgot it you can go into your manager immediately and recover the diamond!

Is there a purple spot on the map where you killed the wolf?

Did you have harvest screen opened when you got killed?
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

@bowfin Yep I followed the trail and last lead I found was a blood trail and said (0-25% health). After that nothing. I searched the proximity area and no body.

@Rookie No I didn't have it open yet. Was about to.

@The Last Frontier Thank you for your comment. I have also witnessed a trail leading to nowhere, just like now. Once a water buffalo's tracks ended up to a cliff and no other trails were found. You gave me a nice tip. I'll check if I can find the wolf from the lodge.

My experience is that if you kill and then get killed, the carcass will still be there when you travel from the outpost back to the kill location (just go the purple spot on the map).

Animals never despawn until you leave the game or change maps. When you start a new session (after closing and re-opening the game) or change maps they will respawn over the course of the first 30 minutes or so (the exact animals who were still living at the end of the last session will be the ones that respawn, plus killed animals will be replaced by a random animal of the same species) and be persistent throughout the session until killed.

@The Last Frontier Sadly I didn't find the wolf. Better luck next time. I even managed to kill another animal after that, because I didn't understand the game mechanics.

@CaptainNebulous Thank you for your answer. I knew that the game respawn a new animal after the player kills an animal of some kind. Hopefully I'll get my wolf back someday. I got 2 albinos in the first 10 hours in Yukon Valley, so my luck had to run out at some point.

@Kossatz Yep I do use the map to find my kills. Sadly still didn't find the wolf.

You do have to have harvested the animal for it to show up in the manager recovery section.

I think they added this recovery in there just in case you harvest something like a diamond or rare fur and forgot to taxi it first then you at least have a chance to recover it so long as you have not shot any other animal between.

Or as I suggested just as you die pull up the map quickly it lets you put a pin marker on your death location which will make it easier to find the exact spot is useful if you have multiple over lapping purple areas!

That works even better!

Thank you all for your responds. I actually managed to find another Egg White Wolf (with full health) and Albino Harlequin Duck for exchange. You people have been very helpful and it's extremely nice to be a part of this community. Now I'm one step wiser what comes to this game and I take these tips to my next round in the next reserve. Thank you again and hopefully I'll see you in the wilds.

Yeah for the most part the community here is awesome.

I know I had another free to play game I was testing out and part of what made me stop playing that game was the buttheads in that community no matter what you would post out there always someone was either trying to act like a moderator 9without mod authority) or was just being rude to other players and it got old very fast. It was not Classic for the record as I know it's now F2P this was some other game.

Yeah free to play games are like that. The community is very toxic and you don't get any help without being accost. In this community you feel very welcomed and people seem to try their best to help you with your issue. I must say that this kind of community I haven't experienced anywhere else. Maybe the reason is that the players of this game are mature and don't want any drama in the forums.
Yeah we have several mods in the group to keep the trouble makers in line though we don't really have many a couple perhaps but their kept in line.

The biggest trouble maker we have in the community is PicSoul he's a mod that is constantly keeping the forums neat by moving posts into the right area HA HA I mean how dare he keep it neat and tidy in here HA HA :lunar2019laughingpig: But he's the mod I see the most in here keeping things in order though we do have several though rarely see them post unless required or they have some input to add on a topic.

Just wanted to add, the quickest way I could think to mark your spot if getting attacked might be to open the map M and quickly tap the Steam screenshot key ( F12 by default). Doing this should give you a very quick way to refind your previous position.
