This has the smallest bevel, least obstructive view, nice clean scope.
The x50 zoom is only good for really long shots, over 300m & it has poor peripheral vision.
The Ascent 1-4x24, Hyperion 4-8x42 and Argus 8-16x50. There is also the Helios 4-8x32, but that is only mountable on the lever-action rifles (30-30 and 45-70).
The Ascent provides a variable zoom from 1x to 4x and is good to ~150m in my experience, depending on target. The Hyperion provides a 4x-8x zoom and a larger objective lens (42 vs. the Ascent's 24), which in theory should allow a better sight picture at night (haven't tried is though, still need to pick up the Hyperion), and should allow you to take shots at much longer ranges (200m plus easily).
Given the limitations of how far animals can be seen, the Hyperion is probably the most universally useful rifle scope in the game, it's lowest zoom level is good for targets within 100m and at the 8x you should be able to hit most animals out to 300m or longer.
Personally, I see no point in purchasing the Argus 8-16x50. There are not a whole lot of opportunities to shoot at 300m or longer where this scope would shine, and the high magnification can actually be detrimental against targets that are closer.
TL;DR - Buy the Hyperion 4-8x42 and use that on every rifle that can mount it.
8-16x is useful for long shots, but it wobbles a lot even when prone. 4-8x is easier to use for longer shots, while 1-4x is great for anything closer.
I agree with above that 4-8x is probably optimal scope, can be easily unmounted for iron sight for close encounters
