bought a .270, didnt like it.
and red deer / reindeer.
Each gun is calibured .243 .30-30 .270 etc. As you step up in bullet calibur you increase the penetration and the amount of damage the gun causes both in direct damage and bleed damage ( If the animal runs off).
So, to answer your question - I still prefer the .243 over the .270 since I am not shooting my prey in the lungs - but rather either the spine or heart. If you can hit the spine or heart it doesnt matter what you shoot them with - they are down. so it really comes down to a personal choice and what you are hunting. Keep in mind some animals can not be shot with a .270 and maintain 100% integrity.
If you are still on the fence - dont look at ingame stats. Take them to the gun range and test them. I dont notice any difference in accuracy because the majority of animals I shoot at are 200 yards or less. The lions share being between 22ish and 60 yards.
My personal kit is the DLC Bearclaw Bow, with 300, 420, and 600grain arrows, the .243 Ranger, 7mm, and .338. (all rifles are loaded with Polytip ammo) .
With this kit I can hunt every animal in the game. I dont have any trouble most times I shoot at whites and blacks with the .243 because I shoot spine shots and instant kill them just fine. The only use for the 338 mind you is Moose, Elk, and Bison - but sometimes you stumble on to them and its nice to pop em if they got a nice trophy score. They can be killed with a 7MM just fine, but the 338 is a great way to make sure you penetrate their hides and get the kill shot.
Hope this helps a little.
Happy Holidays,
Odd
BTW anyone tried shotgun slugs with Bison so far?
And Happy Holiday to you too,Oddjawb
The DLC Bearclaw Bow you are using, is it the second bow from the shop? I heard theres a 3rd bow, is it the one you are talking about? If yes, how do you obtain it if its not in the store?
Jeez, thanks. That cleared that up for me too. They need to rrework the stats badly
... By the way I also love .223 but is much more complicated to take big game decently with it...
Edit: but .270 outperforms .243 every way even at supposed precision. .270 is the tool ... Imo
