Do animals scream or shout in pain, if wounded in real life?
Sorry for this morbid and kinda weird question.
In real life, if you shoot an animal but you don't get a kill shot or something, does the animal scream in pain?
I've never hunted before and I'm curious if animals shout in pain. I know dogs whimper if hurt. But I have no idea if deers, bears, or coyotes make hurt noises.

In terms of the game, I kinda wandered if it would give the player another cue, that they hit the animal. Atm in game, I don't know if I've hit an animal until I go over to the spot I shot. Unless I can see the blood splatter or it went straight down. The idea I had was let's say you get a flesh wound, the animal would be screaming as it ran off.

But Real life first.

Deer stay pretty quiet but a rabbit caught in a trap is another thing entirely.

Way back when I was kid, I made a bad shot on a small buck. It was a spine shot but he was still alive. I was gonna use my knife and cut his throat to finish him off and when I got a hold of him he let out a bellow like scream that scared the hell out of me. I reloaded my muzzleloader and finished him with it instead. From that day on I made damn sure my shots were on target and to make clean kills.

Thank you for that story. Muzzleloaders were the thing when I was a kid too.

Thank you for sharing mate. Sounds pretty harrowing and brutal.
I don't know if wild animals make noise if wounded or if the devs simply left that out of the game.
I can see it putting some people off if the sound is particularly harsh.
I suppose if I'd been shot I'd get that fight or flight adenaline thing happening and not notice I'd been shot till I stopped and realised what happened, then I'd go, is that blood, ow!

I think it's rare for deer to make those sounds unless they are being attacked. I have never heard any other sound from white tail deer except for mating calls and deer blowing at me when I spook them in real life. I don't care to hear it again anyway.

My dad spined one about 5 years ago. Was shooting at a doe and he hit a bystander. Shot and spined another doe behind it. He actually wasted like 5 bullets as the herd didn't get spooked. He didn't sight his gun. Lol but he took his phone and recorded the injured spine doe kicking. He later said he slit her throat. If it was me, I would probably shoot it myself. Always practice good hunting ethics and good shot placement.

I'm sure they do. Maybe a call to the herd it may be with? I don't know, but I do know deer do leave a death call or moan right before it's about to die. Not all the time but it's usually a sign that the deer is down.

have heard them grunt when hit, sometimes loud, most times not, but they do register a hit with a sound, just have to listen to hear it.

Only time I ever heard a deer scream (Other than fawns bawling for mom) was from a pair of sparring bucks when a mountain lion got the jump on one of them. The other buck screamed his head off as he was trying to get his antlers free.

I can't comment on any other animal but pigs, goats, and sheep scream like no tomorrow if you don't kill them in the first shot, it's why we generally stick to the steel pipe and knife method (it also make the meat taste nicer)
