To people who lost animals in water...
It just happened to me. I remembered somone else posting a screen shot of a tracking misadventure a little while ago where the animal they were chasing was teleporting acroos rivers and lakes. I also have had that happen to me once when I fell into a lake while thrying to walk along a very steep shore. I was teleported to the other side where it was not so steep. So I decided that I would run around the lack my buck ran into and vanished thinking the same might have happened to him. Sure enough, there he was dead on the other side.

I know it looks like water on the map, but it is a grassy land bridge with a wooden walkway.

Ya its extremely frustrating and what makes it more frustrating is they devs have known about this FOREVER. As much as I love these devs that is just not cool.

I tried CotW again tonight after making the switch to Classic but after losing a huge Elk because it ran to a river and POOF! gone. Too much for me. This game could and hopefully will be great but its back to Classic for me.

Right now CotW is still just a mess.

Very sad that well over a year after this has become a well-known issue, it still has not been resolved. Unacceptable really, because this game is all about patience and persistence and the game rewarding those that have it. But from time to time, the game screws you out of it which consumes your time for nothing in the end.

Had it happen today, and the blood and tracks stopped at a lake waterfront. It was on a tip of the lake, so it would have made sense that the animal went into the water but it would have continued its path and the tracks should have appeared on the other side of that tip. But instead, the animal was teleported all the way to the other side.

Thanks to this thread, I did walk the entire lake and found it. But very unrealistic and definitely a bug. Development team and management really need to prioritize fixing issues like this, because having these kind of threads with this kind of issue lingering for a year plus, if someone is considering the game why would they buy it and invest time in playing it?

That is why I quit playing it. It seems like there have been a few issues they have known about for over a year and yet still not fixed. It really is a shame.

Well, thank goodness for this community because without it I'd have quite as well. At least in this board you can find the issues and, as in this case, find work arounds that make it somewhat tolerable.

Glad my horribly spelled, drunken post helped some people ;p

About 75% of the time they end up either directly across from where they disappeared (but not always immediately, timewise) or sometimes return back to the point where they teleported from. The other 25% of the time they are just depressed with their lives and commit suicide in the water. In this case, I would like scooba gear so I can dive and save them, and then shoot them. But alas! Still no word on this feature.

Great reason for the dev's to add a swimming mechanic. But I noticed it ran in a straight line. Maybe something to remember next time an animal decides to do a Loki on us.

SOLUTION: We lost a piebald moose at the bottom of a lake that was impossible to get to because we would drown before being able to reach it if we tried on foot. After about 20 minutes of trying different methods, we discovered you can drive your ATV into the water and push the animal out of the water enough with your ATV in order to claim it (This specific instance occurred at the southern-most lake in the Korpimaa region on the Revontuli Coast map). Hope this saves someone the heartache!!!

I was hunting layton lakes the lake where you have to take a picture of a bear . When I witnessed two or three deer going into that lake and then going across the lake, i would say 500 yards all three deer game up on shore and continued on.
