Turned off pop ups/glow/etc
I recently picked up the game and had fun in my first session however I couldn't help but feel like the game was too easy. All the icons and glowing effects made it really easy to find animals and I was left feeling like I wouldn't put much more time into the game.

However, last night I turned off all of the help icons in the options menu and wow, what a difference. I had so much fun playing last night, tracking by looking for disruptions to the foliage and grass. I managed to take down a few animals and it was so much more rewarding.

I highly recommend you try turning off the graphical help if you haven't, it was like playing a different game.

Do you also turn off track (footprint) glow? If so, how in the world do you manage to effectively track anything for very long like that? That's the only thing I have a hard time turning off completely.

At first I left the glow on because I found the tracks hard to see. Then I started turning off the glow after I found some tracks and looked at what that looked like. The hoofprints are hard to see, but the grass disturbance is not if you take your time.

What I've settled on now is to only have the direction cone on, so when I find tracks I can see what way they were headed. This has made me slow down a lot to watch carefully, but I've enjoyed that more than just running around looking for the glow which I found broke any sense of emersion.

I find less animals than when I had the glow on, but again, when I do manage to successfully track something, it is a million times more satisfying.

My view on this game is that I would get bored if I just treated it like a leveling treadmill where I was rushing to get xp and climb in levels (particularly when it's easy to track with all the indicators on). Instead, I can play for an hour, track an animal or two and really enjoy the process.

I'm excited to play tonight just thinking about the fun I had last night!

Gamewise you're young still ;-) you will get frustrated and want to start really tracking at some point. I wish the tracks weren't so obvious myself, they have got to find some better median way to show tracks and scat.

It is frustrating to see this graphics engine wasted on this game engine. IE, why couldn't we get the game mechanics and rules in theHunter Classic ported to this environment.

I found your post while trying to find the original post I saw a while ago ,another fourm user said he turned everything off. I tried it and quickly gave up, I decided to give it another try with more experience under my belt and can honestly say it's so much more fun to play like this. It definitely takes some getting used to and isn't for everyone. Now if they could just remove that save icon in the lower left we'd have a completely clean HUD. Happy Hunting

There should be a toggle on/off keystroke shortcut for tracks glowing...

I recently started to play it like this and I love it.

Agreed, I don't think there's any going back after you hunt like this. The tracking feels more natural ,find tracks locate some vegatition or droppings to determine if something might be in the area and then begin looking for it. Some mission will require tracks be turned on ,I think you might need them but honestly can't remember. The hunt is the thing 😊

I don't know if you guys know that the arrow in the compass is supposed to get wider or narrow depending on the wind strength. I've been watching the particals float though the air and I think they do move faster or slower depending on wind strength, I'm still testing to see if that's true ,but I think it is as I've seen the particals almost still at times.

Yeah, I hate that constantly flashing icon! It's so distracting. :(

And as a (close to) day 1 player, I can tell you that that wasn't always there, it's something that just snuck into an update within the last year (or several months). Definitely wasn't visible to players originally, and needs to be removed, or, at the least, made toggle-able.

It's letting you know there are other animals in that area.
It is the only reason to save the game. The environment does not change nor needs to be saved.

Personally I think you should be allowed to toggle it off...
and ignore that you are not alone in the woods.

I personally like it and will keep it functioning.

If you want real hunting... I suggest you leave your arm chair for the real outdoors.

Your correct, it just showed up one day after an update. Since your save always places you back at the last lodge you visited I find it useless.

For a real challenge, go full primal: No HUD, no glowing tracks, no direction cone, no audio clues, no map, no scent reducer, no binoculars, and hunt with recurve only.

That's savage level 1000, I'm so bad with recurve bow ,but I would like to get better with it. Those settings would definitely level the playing field.
