When you call an animal, pay attention to the wind. Lay flat on the ground. This works for males also but they can take their time to come.
When they walk and you cannot catch up while crouching, run until they spook. This will get them out of their walking/trotting pace and after they have ran they will stand there for a while. This is your time to catch up.
After they spook and run, should I walk or crouch to follow them?
What I do is I crouch or go prone in the trees (take a look at the bottom right of the HUD on the screen and watch your visibility indicator go down to minimum), do not move and you will also not produce sound to spook them either. Using the scent eliminator means you do not produce a scent even if the animal is down wind from you and this lasts for around 30 minutes I believe. You will have low visibility, no audibility and be scentless.
Then use the correct caller on them and wait (can sometimes take multiple tries to attract them). The only thing you will have to be careful about is the fact that even though everything else can be zero, you cannot be fully invisible. This means that eventually, the animal will see you as they get closer, but with the lowest visibily the range of detection is very, very close even for maximum difficulty animals.
Only use the caller if you know they are in range or you are wasting your time. So find the animal first either by spotting, tracking or hearing their call. I know it is obvious, but don't sprint around chasing it, just take your time walking or crouching until you are within calling range. Wait for them to get close enough to you to take them down, but take your time. Do not risk taking a shot if you are unsure of hitting them in the vitals if at all.
Learn the integrity values for each species and make sure you are using the correct calibre for your target species to score maximum points and ensure that they are likely to drop on the spot with one shot.

Then take an easy well placed shot (lungs, neck, spine or back of the head) and enjoy your trophy. 50m/yards or less makes for a great shot and is much easier with iron sights.
I am only level 20 so I have no scent eliminator. My caller also limit to Erk and Whitetail.
I will try my best from what I have.
Thank you for your info.
First, start from following tracks, not running around to spot an animal (which seems to be what you are doing).
If you do not have the "disturbed vegetation" skill and perk, pay attention to the "age of poo".
When you reach a "fresh/very fresh/just now" poo, adjust how you approach. (Just be prepared for that age to change quickly - either because of some bugginess, or because they have actually stopped to feed/rest/water).
The map is your best friend - pay attention to the lay of the land. If you need to back off and approach from another direction - do it.
Pay attention to wind and use it to your advantage (you can use it to drive them where you want them as well).
As for scents (that's ambush, not stalking):
Maybe the scent thing is different for different people, but for me they work about the same as calls, with only fewer results. Wind has no effect on them (for me). I've sprayed them when the wind is blowing in one direction, and had animals call from the opposite direction (repeatedly whenever I sprayed).
Buy a few and test them out - seeing as different people are getting different results.
These callers work very well, almost too well. You must be patient, when does appear, use Bino's to scope tree line, Bucks will be in the back, continue calling, they will come.
Find a high vantage point where you have line of sight to some large clearings, or even better, water sources. Elk Bulls tend to travel together, bucks and moose bulls are often isolated. Once you have located your target, take note of the wind and work on approaching down wind. Stick to bushes to keep yourself camouflaged, and move in the prone position when no cover is available. Monitor your sound bars and try keep them at two bars. Avoid red at all cost. Good luck.
1) The free caller (doe bleet) works fine on most deer
2) Get the first bow (60lb) with the green (420GR) arrows. You can get them right at the start and they do a ton of damage. You are almost guaranteed to one shot medium game with 100% integrity
3) As mentioned above crouch in a bush and fins a spot with minimujm visblility. If possible a bush with clear space all around so you can see them comming.
4) Use that caller, the free one is fine.
5) you may be approached by females 1st. Just kill them with the bow, but dont harvest them. Stay exactly where you are. I usually shoot from about 15m
6) Use the caller again ( this works with guns too but the bow spooks them in a shorter range). Believe it or not the will come back
7) soon the will came back and eventually you will get the males
8) keep count of how many are killed and how many you wounded, so you can find them after.
I did this today and in the one spot got 7 instant deaths and 3 that ran about 30m before dying. 3 of them were males and I got gold for 2 of them. All 1 shot and all 100% integrity except for one female (dont know why?)
Good luck
