How far can a bow actualy shoot???

I am going to eventualy get the bow, shotgun, pistol. I am aa bow unter in real life and am curious on the game it says range is only 20 yards. Can you hit and kill targets at longer ranges or is that the max range. If you hit an organ at say 50 yards will it take it down, count as a flesh wound, or will it even make it there?

86m ~ 94y was my longes shot with the bow

i found 60yds and under good for the 70lb bow
50yds for the 60lb ones but yes you can get lucky and get hits at 100yds

ok just curious. I didn't want to buy it and find it's only good for getting the acheivment for using every weapon

bow range is up to your windage skill.

The bows can shoot pretty far, but for accurate shots and actual ability to down an animal, the effective range is up to 50m with the right arrow type for the target species. Past this distance, not only will the arrows flight path veer away at an angle from where you are shooting, but the piercing ability of the arrows will also drop significantly.

Any further headshot than that and it is probably just a fluke, and hitting anywhere that isn't a head will likely only cause the animal to bleed for a long while.

Starting with bows I would suggest going to the range first. I couldn’t hit anything and didn’t understand what I was doing wrong. The first bow you get testing at the range didn’t even go 50 yards the lowest target on the range. Not until I walked up closer on range 20 or 25 yards closed did I at least hit the target. Now that I realized this I know you need to be at 20/25 yards for a chance. After a long struggle to get my score leveled up for first scope upgrade do you start to get distance with bows. As you level up the bows they finally seem fun to use.

I’m thinking 260y is about the furthest the arrows will travel. I say that because I shot this elk on the edge of the water while I was on the opposite side of the river on a hill. Being able to see missed shots hit the water was how I adjusted. I was way back (nearly 300y when I started), but I could not get it to reach the animal no matter how much higher I aimed. I adjusted left/right (with the wind at my back), then walked forward approximately the distance it was falling short on the missed shots. (I was actually using points in the mountains on the horizon to aim). I ended up taking 2 like this.
