diamont rating animals are very hard to spot, they spooked faster, they call lesser and they leave less tracks.
- Quick Kill Bonus
- Integrity Bonus
- Consecutive Harvest Bonus
Animals also have a Difficulty level. The higher the difficulty, the bigger the animal. Take for example your moose, they have 5 levels...
- 1 Trivial.
- 2 Minor.
- 3 Very Easy
- 4 Easy
- 5 Medium
Your moose must be a 5 Medium in order to qualify as a potential diamond kill. So if you ever see a 5 Medium moose, you must take all the requirements posted above into consideration before taking your shot. It must be "one shot" and it must be a quick kill. Good luck.
Here are the trophy values that each species needs to be in order to score at least 950 to get the diamond rating:
HIRSCHFELDEN.
RED FOX: 14-15 trophy points
ROE DEER: 249-276
FALLOW DEER: 213-237
WILD BOAR: 144-159
Red Deer: 249-276
European Bison: 271-300
LAYTON LAKE DISTRICT.
COYOTE: 56-59
BLACKTAIL DEER: 189-210
WHITETAIL DEER: 191-212
BLACK BEAR: 22-24
Roosevelt Elk: 364-404
Moose: 220-245
Diamond rated animals of red deer, red fox, coyote and black bear are very often, (but not always) high difficulty animals because those 4 species are capable of being mythical and legendary. So they are more easily spooked, a lot of the really high difficulty animals can often sense you hundreds of metres away if you are not careful. Try not to sprint too often or use the atv if you do not need to. I only sprint for short distances after I have already fired a shot and scared anything in the vicinity away anyway. I walk or crouch any other time and fast travel instead of using the atv. If you are constantly scaring them away then you have no chance of harvesting them, and it is likely that you have been around diamonds and scared them away and you had no idea they were even there in the first place.
If you level up the 'spotting knowledge' skill in the ambusher skill tree to level 2 then you can see the estimated trophy levels of each animal in a herd and determine which ones if any could be diamond with the information above. This gives you an advantage as you can make sure you don't shoot diamonds too early in your current play session and leave them to the 5th or more animal harvested to ensure you get the 100% consequtive harvest bonus. From experience I know that missing out on a diamond because you forgot about full consecutive harvest bonus even when the shot was perfect is not fun. With this perk and knowing you have a possible diamond animal in your sights you will also know to take your time and to be a little more careful with shot placement to get the quick kill bonus at 100%. If you further increase this skill to level 3 then you have an even further advantage on diamond animals. It will allow you to see their awareness level, it will let you know if they are relaxed or anxious of your presence (meaning they are starting to become aware of you and could soon run). Then there is always the disturbed vegetation skill in the stalking skill tree which also would give you an advantage on the more dificult animals that could be diamond as they do not leave as many tracks as the average animal, of course meaning you are more likely to come across their tracks and be able to stalk them.
I would also recommend that you ditch the binoculars and invest in the 'sight spotting' perk as well, which in combination with the 'spotting knowledge perk' means that you can spot using your weapons to determine if there any diamonds in the herds and not have to change equipment or take any extra slots or weight in the pack.
A combination of these 4 perks, mindfulness of your stealth and using the scent eliminator as well as knowledge of using the correct calibres and aiming for the vitals correctly gives you the best odds. For something which is so rare in the game, having all the possible factors that you can have influence over under your control gives you the best possible chance of bagging diamonds.
The more I know about the game, the more I appreciate the thought gone into the game mechanics. We were supposed to work out this strategy all along and the consecutive harvest bonus on golds and diamonds simulates real life population management. If you shoot the big bucks too early you get penalised for it. Which is something easily overlooked and unnoticed as an inexperienced player. Well done devs!
jager #4 killing me though...
