Question about tracking after the shot
In this game, is it beneficial to wait after a shot to prevent pushing the animal from running too far like IRL? So say you have a vital hit, will an animal move further away if you immediately start tracking it vs waiting for it to bleed out.

Just wondering to see if anyone else has tested this out. If not guess ill be trying tomorrow!

Edit: Bumping is the term I was looking for.

no point in waiting, just run it down and pick it up, it wont make any change in the game, the animals are scared off anyway from the shot unless you use a bow. if there were other animals close by just use the caller 2 or 3 times after picking up the trophy and wait for them a short time if they dont show up its best to move on and find new prey.

the time it takes for new prey to show up after you call is so long you might aswell pick the animal up or wait and let them pile up around you.. also a wounded animal will return if you use a caller.. just a ingame tip, until they fix it so the animals arent that stupid...

note: the animals will tell you if they hear you, thats the "warning call" you hear if that does not happen then youre not spooking any animals while running if you hear the call then its enough to slow down to not spook them.

Actually, if you chase it immediately it will flee further but will eventually die, but it could go pretty far before it dies. If you wait, it will just run from where you shot it. It won't go any further if you don't give it reason too.

Good to know @dbj204 thank you!

It depends on the hit. If you got a decent hit with good blood loss, you can just go track it. If the blood loss is low, you'll just push it farther away and run around in circles, lol.

you can start going after it, just look at what the track is saying, trotting, running etc, check blood loss amount if it says vital hit, the animal is probably gonna drop dead quite soon after moving off, if it says low blood loss then you have another problem on your hand, you could end up chasing it for a long time before you see it again, just depends, thats what makes it interesting, but always try neck, spine shots, these seem to drop them almost immediately.

I never wait. On really bad shots (if I want to keep CH bonus at 100%, otherwise why bother?) I turn the wound tracking into an extension of my hunting anyway. Just needs use of waypoint and landmarking and a good sense of spatial awareness to do so.
