I had the opportunity to watch a fox on the open field near the windmills while calling. I mentioned that it takes two too for calls until it turns around. But this does not attract em for very long. It turns back again after 10-30 seconds. So I started to call in a endless loop. but that made it flee. so calling it too often will not be a good idea! by night /dusk / dawn or in the woods they will come very close up to 10m before they run away. but somtimes all patience is wasted with it. so i tend to let them cry and pass by..

Also had the opportunity to watch a Red Fox .... it approached my location in a sneaking matter with its ears and whole body low to the ground ......

Not sure if this is intended or if he was just on to me

Foxes are tiny. I'd always recommend finding a hill to look down from and preferably calling them through areas without much tall grass. Foxes and coyotes in general, in my experience, are very skittish about approaching the caller. They will amble around, circle it, move forward, stop every few steps, and so on. They may be encountered early but I'd consider them a higher difficulty hunt compared to most of the deer.

Only call them 2-3 times total and just be patient. Calling excessively will spook them. Give it 30-60 seconds between callings. When waiting for them to come in, prone. Every 15s or so, or if you hear the prey rustling around, crouch for no more than 5s to look around. If you hear them give a warning call, go back to prone immediately and call again.

Eventually they'll be close enough and visible enough to line up a good shot with a rifle (most of the foxes I've taken have been from 30+ meters; almost any body shot will down them in a reasonable time so I prefer taking a good shot over waiting for a great one). You can do that or wait until they're even closer (hearing their footsteps nearby) if you want to try bow/shotgun hunting them.

When i first got the mission to kill a fox with the bow it frustrated me no end, I just couldn't get anywhere near them.

Now when I hear a fox I have a look a round for a rock to lay on and get calling them.
Don't over use the caller, it can take them quite a while to get to you.

Since the game decided my rifle hits are now only going to be flesh wounds i switched over to the pistol and now go fox/coyote hunting and i'm loving it.
I just need to get them pistol points up so i can get a scope for it :)

Yes that mission to kill the fox with the bow drove me nuts too. I was very lucky in the end, I followed a fox trail with the intention of running after it until it hopefully got stuck somewhere. After chasing it for a short while it started running around in circles in front of me, so it took a couple of stray arrows before I finally killed it. Definitely not a mission I would like to do again.

If I see one I shoot ,but I don't call them anymore,it takes one hour for them to show up.

The red fox is smaller than the coyote, so it is harder to see. In this game I use the .270 with a zoomable riflescope and the ammo with polymer tip. This knocks then dead on the spot every time. In RL I use a 30-06 with varmint ammo and a scope for hunting at dusk/dawn, as they are more active in low lighting conditions.

The jackrabbit caller has a sound that is to short (and wrong, but that is another story), so I call twice every time and at 15-20 sec intervals.Twice as in: second call as quickly as you can.

The red fox in this game behaves fairly accurate, but in RL they can be a lot harder sometimes. As I hunt these rascals in RL, I find them easy after I learned how the "game AI thinks foxwise".

As in RL, the fox relies a lot on the senses of hearing and smell. And so far ingame, they have been using their nose more than their ears.

My advice to you is to watch the wind direction, the fox will come at you against the wind. This is to get your scent, to "smell" what is killing that jackrabbit as they do in RL. As in RL they will stop for a few seconds to see what is killing the "silly wabbit", this leaves you time to aim and shot at you leasure.

If you position yourself so the the fox is coming at you from aroung some trees, a boulder or over a hilltop etc, the ingame fox will stop and look as mentioned above.

In RL fox hunting this behavior is exploited by having a decoy making a movement. The fox expects to see movement, and when it sees the decoy the fox don't look elsewhere before it is to late...

As in RL, shooting an animal from the side and in the chest/lung area are the surest way to kill them. Even if they do not drop dead on the spot, this is a lethal shot if it is placed correctly.

Foxes and coyotes gives me up to 1200.- each :-)

Ok so first of all if u do not have the caller for them just dont bother. After u get the caller they behave almost like all other animals. They just have all senses really sharp, so if u make noise, or the wind is blowing in the wrong direction or ure not covered properly it can be a pain to catch them. U gotta make sure everything ir working on your favor to be able to hunt them.

Best scenario: be at a spot with nice view if possible, make sure the wind is is not anywhere near blowing with ur smell towards the fox, make sure ur visibility is the lowest possible (it will look like this "_____" ) u can get that by hiding near bushes or using the prone position. Use the caller and wait while trying to spot them with ur binocullar after u spot them just get the 223 rifle (for max score) and shoot.

I assume you don't go for/care about integrity bonus? As the .223 with plolymer tips would give you the same results and give you the integrity bonus.

Had no major problems hunting them with a bow. My problem is that I'm stuck at this mission: The fox and the scope. "Shoot a fox at least 200 meters away with scoped .270." Been trying for 3 days now. Haven't seen one. Any advice? Or is it just pure luck? ie - sit and watch with a scope until planets align and there is a fox in the view? Nothing for 3 days. All the eating/resting spots I find don't have 200meters+ line of sight. Feel like this one should be a side mission.

run around till they send out a warning call, then call them to you.
