Yes, you can hunt Black Bear.

Here are all the animals in the game at this time.

No bear at the Hirshfelden reserve. I'm not sure what you heard, but it was not a bear.

Bears are bugged to hell. They can go from hind leg stance to all fours in 1 frame. They can turn left or right or completely around in 1 frame. They have no transition animation, it's just instant. This enables them to dodge bullets like Neo from the Matrix. You pull the trigger and BOOM, suddenly they are in a different stance position or facing a different direction. They also freeze a lot. They can be running away or charging at you and freeze mid frame for no apparent reason. They do come to a stop for a second if they are hit by a bullet, but even if you don't shoot they still tend to freeze. This is in single player too so multiplayer connection has nothing to do with this bug. I usually wait for them to freeze and then shoot lol. It's easier to shoot a stationary target so why not? lol and they freeze 9 times out of 10 so it's almost garanteed to happen. They often die with no death animation, you will most likely find them frozen dead in one of their running or walking frames. But yes, you can hunt bears.

I had a Red Deer buck do something like that with me today at the hiking cabins in Jonsdorf.

The buck was prancing down the hill towards me and I waited till he stopped to shoot. Shot, hit him and he started phasing around the hill then back over the top towards the POI and Codex spot. It was like he would go to an alternate dimension and pop back in ocasionally.

When I came out of the bush I was crouching in I found no tracks but a Vital Hit blood splatter where I shot him and one blood splatter futher up the hill. I decided I would got at least to the POI and Codex spot in case he dropped and I found him right near the POI dead.

Luckily when I harvested him I got full credit for him with a 100% quick kill.

Bears are there but theyre buggy and need some more work. Like djb204 said, theres animations missing and they have a habit of freezing on the spot. Even the caller the fox/coyote one just quieter.

Find Bears in Layton lake. Dropped Bear with a 243, Polymer tip bullet in 1 shot to the neck.

And I've noticed a lot of shot paths that do not match the shot taken on bear. I've never shot a bear from behind when it's on its hind legs, but it seems every one I take like that shows me shooting it in the back (or behind).
