The Poacher, A Call for Ethics
EW I'm sure have beat the drum saying they want to teach ethical hunting. Why then do the have missions to harvest deer at night? I'm pretty sure its illegal in most places. I wouldn't even be opposed to Doc giving you the message that it's now after sunset and to be sure to harvest only varmits at night. Then a message at dawn telling you that it's sunrise.

Never hunted boar or hog so I'm not sure if they are taken after dark along with bear. Let's bring some ethics to the game.

- If there were any "ethics" in question in CoTW, it's the fact we get paid for our kills, regardless of weapon used or the time it takes to die.

- If there were any "ethics' in question in CoTW, it's the need to shoot 5 random animals before we can begin securing a trophy score. Again, any weapon, in any way.

- If there were any "ethics' in question in CoTW, it's that we can maim to our hearts content, with the lowest or highest calibre weapon we want, and we'll not be penalised for abandoning the track.

Besides, hunting at night has nothing to do with "ethical", it is simply "unlawful" for whatever reason is trotted out. Presumably your country has licences/tags and whether animals are shot at night or in bright sunlight, you could not exceed your bag. It is also not unlawful in many countries either.

I reject your ethics and substitute my own. :steamhappy:

Tough one this, in some respects I agree with the OP re promoting ethics when it comes to hunting/shooting, however Silky Rough has the measure of it I feel.

When push comes to shove, COTW is a game and is neither a teaching aid or a mirror on the legalities of hunting at night because this is different from country to country (here in the UK, night hunting's allowed for the purposes of population or pest control but has pretty strict regulation) so it's a tough call to say "We can't do it where I'm from ergo none of you can do it".

An element of RPG can be applied: if it's against someone's personal ethics to shoot deer at night then they just don't shoot deer at night, pretty simple and no preaching from Doc or additional game mechanic required.

The night hunting thing, well it is only a game... The real question is if there was any true to life breeding I wouldn't have a single animal left after killing so many females to get ch bonus.

"No real animals were harmed in the making of this game."

There are no universal laws regarding night hunting.

In some countries it's illegal, in others it's not, and in those where it is legal it may (or may not) be restricted to certain kinds of game, also there may or may not be restrictions to using lights.

There are plenty of other hunting games out that try to instill hunting ethics... "You don't have a tag for that animal!!!" or "You can't harvest that animal with that caliber!" UGH! It's nice to finally have a game available with a Unlimited hunting license.

You could also ask yourself why it is illegal in some areas to hunt at night. I don't know the answer to this, but I'm going to throw two guesses:

1. Many hunting areas are close enough to towns/cities that gunshots in the night would be a noise pollution issue.

2. Being able to see what you are shooting is very important. They make you wear those silly bright orange hats and shirts over your camo in many areas to prevent hunters accidentally shooting other hunters. I suppose the chance of shooting another hunter at night is greatly increased, thus making this illegal is on the safe side.

I don't think it has anything to do with animal ethics, but rather with respecting the neighbors. I haven't seen any sings of neighbors in TheHunter, so that's that.

Its a video game. Obviously you won't hunt at night, or shouldnt in real life.

Without night hunting they should just do away with the night cycle all together. I find the hunt at night more challenging, even though the challenge rating in total of this game is about slim to none.

You have the option to skip time, so if "YOU" don't care for night hunting just skip it and find something else to harp on.

Did you know that It is legal in some countries to hunt at night? It is also illegal in some countries to hunt at night.
Who cares? Here are some US regulations for those who wonder what you can hunt at night and at what hours in each state... http://www.hightechredneckincorporated.com/articles.asp?ID=261

Silky is it moral to break the law?
SexyDexy Mar 16, 2017 @ 11:44am
Knoxx212, while this game would be breaking the law on Public land...but there are real life hunting opportunities where public/private land Department of Fish & Wildlife rules don't apply. The animals are farmed/purchased. For instance, I can hunt Pheasants year round in Arizona at a private ranch for $20 a bird. 250,000 birds are purchased from Mexico, stored in an aviary, and then released for hunters to enjoy.

I read that as peasant hunting and had a chuckle.

No it isn't "moral" to break the law - under most cases anyway.

Just as your "law" might apply to your country, but not in mine, it does not apply in CoTW so no law, and therefore no moral, is or can be broken.

Think maybe he meant ethical. Either way morality, ethics, and law are different things that sometimes intersect.
