I find polymer does the job better

yes

Polymer is better, if you get like an 90% quick kill with soft, polymer would have been 100%.

I pulled those numbers straight from my ass, but thats basically how the polymer works, it's simply a bit more lethal.

Isn't it more like softpoint = more penetration, suited for bigger stuff like moose, bison, bear to get through the thick skin, and polymer = more expansion, so you cause more damage for not so big stuff and don't need as much penetration to get through the skin?

Depends on the weapon and the animal. Polymer tip expands faster and does more damage, but might not penetrate deep enough for a quick kill if the caliber is too small for the animal. Soft point penetrates better, but is less likely to just drop an animal where it stands. I generally use polymer tipped and try to place my shots in the lungs/heart.

the values are flipped soft points expand and the poly give more penetration

IRL poly's mushroom by dint of the fact the polymer is driven back into the round causing it to expand; the poly point aids accuracy of the round's aerodynamics up until the moment of impact.

Is this flipped for handguns as well, or only rifles?

I got 3 bison today, 1 with polymer tip bullets from a .243, I got 2 good hits on the first one, I tracked it for about 10 minutes to a hill where the game bugged, the bison was trying to go up a steep hill and was just stuck there, I put 8 more shots into it before he died. I soon tracked another, I had spent all my polymer tips so I switched to the soft points. I got another 2 good hits and tracked that one for about 5 minutes and found it dead. The third one I got off one good shot and tracked her for about the same time and found her dead. It seemed to me for bison at least the soft tips did a better job. Though It could be because the first was a male and the next two were females, but it goes to show you, even with a soft point .243 you can bag a bison in one shot.

If you aim for the rump between the shoulders you can drop bison fast.

Where do you find bison?

This.

This is with a .338 poly tipped but I've also done it with .270 and a .243 (although I really don't recommend this calibre for this size animal).

NECROLORD its on the contrary.. Soft point=hit, low penetration, great expansion and polymer=more penetration and less expansion(almost no)..

NICKS0045 is almost insane to go for a Bison with 243 but you can get him down with well aimed polymer tip into lungs (soft point not so sure) or into the heart if you are truly hunter. No boasting here but getting a Bison is not much a work for me since i know exactly where to find it and since it is much bigger than for example a deer's heart..
