yes they drop and it varies from weapon to weapon. I've taken numerous shots 300-450m. It's not that hard.

300-450m with compensating for bullet drop or just hitting where the middle of the crosshair is?

The 30-30 has a natural large bullet drop, other weapons (ammo) are not that bad. IRL, a 30-30 will drop about 24 inches (60 cm) at 300 yards ... In game, here is a screenshot (below) of hitting a Fallow deer at 264m while aiming at the animals shoulder (with a 30-30). A fallow deer stands at the shoulder about 80-90 cm (IRL), so the bullet did indeed drop. In comparison, a .223 wouldn't drop that much at the same range, maybe no more that 8 inches (20 cm), not that much "in-game".

EDIT ... Using the lever action scope, placing the bottom of the redicle squarely on the animal is "what I should have done!".

How does the 270 and 7mm compare?

The 270 and 7mm mag shoot flat out to about 250m (ish). If true to rl sighted at 100yd. it might drop 6-8 inches in 300yd. At 400 m you need to raise over the back. They aren't like shooting a shotgun w/ slug. At 300 yd's you would need to be over the back. 400m probably 6 ft over the kill zone (just a guess)

223 drops a bit more. 30-30 you may as well just use as a tomahawk. I don't have the 45-70 or 338. Guessing 338 is much like 7mm and 45-70 somewhere between 30-30 and 270 for range.

I'm not seeing any bullet drop at all. Killed a large buck yesterday at what must have been 300-400m with .243 and POI was POA.

We need a range for testing...

Killed a moose yesterday at 317 m and had to compensate for the bullet drop.

Would have killed with the first shot if aimed a little bit higher but I think the headshot was cool enough. Also, I got the very last scope (or should I say telescope?) and it introduced a huge amount of wobbling. The gun gets really unstable even with the stabilization perks.

I use an Online-Ballistic-Calculator for different ammunition and it works perfect.

For example my longest killshot was 418m with 7mm magnum - zeroline at 300m and 20 cm higher aim. Right in the heart.
;-)

That... is interesting. I'm going to try that. Can you give me the link?

That was the first result when I googled it, lol.
Just asked because you could be using another one.
Thanks!

The missing range is still my only complaint with the game. Couldnt agree more

Do you have the long-range zero skill? Thankfully it allows us to not have to compensate that much for long range shots. When compensating, the bullet arrives at the target at a vertical angle (not much) but you should see the x-ray show a slightly more down angle (instead of a flat angle), but again, not much from what I've seen.

The 8-12x scope doesn't introduce more wobble (it's the same), except at 12x, the wobble is most noticable because you're zoomed in. Compare the wobble at 8x (left/right/up/down) on a static object (like a stop sign), then select 12x and you should see the same left/right/up/down movement across the stop sign.

EDIT : ... With regards to wobble, that's why players are asking for a bipod for those long range shots, even the best shooters use the proper equipment (which the game lacks).

We need bullet decals first, otherwise we wouldn't see where the shot hit ... :(.

Best we can do is shoot at the stop sign from far away and pray that we see the little puff (or spark/flash) just before the scope moves out of the way.

Oh, if they gave us a shooting range then they need to be sure the "hits" on the target register as "hits", otherwise everyones shooting percentage is going to drop faster than the panties on a 5 dollar women ... :P

I have it now, but not at the time of this shot. That was pure skill :P
