Integrity
Does range have anything to do with this? Because I just killed a Blacktail then a Whitetail both with the 45-70, both vital hits and got 100 and 0

No. The 45-70 is ethical for Whitetail and not the Blacktail.

There's a great integrity chart here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/518790/discussions/0/133258092237301549/

Wow thanks

For trophy hunting you don't want to completely destroy the pelt/meat/antlers/skull etc. Imagine a .50 calibre designed to pierce tank armour being used on a small fox, there would be no trophy left! Integrity literally just means what is left of the body. More than one shot reduces the integrity (holes everywhere in the carcass) which is why clean 1-shot kills with a calibre that isn't too large for the species (doesn't cause unnecessary trauma) are necessary for 100% integrity. That integrity chart is great, I came here myself because I couldn't remember the maximum effective round for each animal. Remember though, that a calibre that is too small for the animal will give 100% integrity bonus but is liekly to reduce the quick kill bonus if it doesn't have enough penetration/stopping power etc...So if you want to score big, get a vital shot with the very maximum calibre for that animal and get 100%integrity and 100%quick kill bonuses.

well... I shot a male blacktail deer with the .270 and got 0% and directly afterwards I shot a female blacktail deer with the .270 and got 100%, the male was 80m and the female was 9m

Yeah I have noticed this sometimes also and that sort of makes no sense why one time it's fine and the other time they say it's not fine to use the same exact weapon. I remember once yesterday I shot a deer and if I remember right it was with my 243 even and it said 0% integrity I mean you can't get any weaker then the 243 rifle in regards to rifles as that is the stater weapon!

You are just getting confused between blacktail and whitetail deer. Blacktail will score you 0% with the 45-70 but whitetail will score you 100%. Also, if you hit an animal more than once with a rifle you will score 0% integrity no matter the calibre, so you can still score 0% integrity bonus on a blacktail even with the .243 if you shoot it twice. I hope this clears some things up for you.

The .243 isn't 'weaker', it just doesn't leave a big hole in the fur so the fur maintains it's integrity and thus it's trophy value remains intact. Animals with thicker hides do not get their pelts destroyed by larger bullets. The disadvantage to smaller calibres in this game is less penetration at longer distances (because they carry less mass) and a smaller hole means that larger animals have slower bleed rates. .243 is still a very strong and capable weapon if you know where to shoot, just find a shot where they die fast without needing to bleed out and where the bullet doesn't have to penetrate far.

the .30-30 has the damage of the .270 and the ethical range of the .243
The .45-70 isn't much better than the .270, but has the same ethical range

If you're on Hirschfelden, the Whitlock '86 (.30-.30) is good for everything except foxes, and I just picked off a Roe at 300 yards, so the shorter range can be adjusted for.

Yes I have a sweet iron sight headshot at 307 yards with the 30-30

It's my favourite weapon in the game.

but my main point was the same deer species and killed two one with 100% and one with 0% so this part makes no sense as the 243 should have maintained 100% for both deer but obviously it did not. That was in reference to You's (The user You not you directly OK) was referencing regarding his 270 same deer species and different integrity ratings.

He was getting confused between 2 different species of deer. Blacktail and whitetail, they have different integrity values. The .270 is a larger calibre than the .243. It doesn't do more damage, it just leaves a bigger hole in the fur. Blacktails are smaller than Whitetails so the .270 round would destroy more of it's fur scoring you 0% integrity bonus.
