You can walk up straight and even run a litlle to catch up on him.
Use a controller however as keyboard/mouse is noisy as ♥♥♥♥
If on forest forget it.... I'm in north and its mountainous with more open places, it's easier to spot, but still hard. Generally they do call warning at around 100m even with good wind for me.
What I've done is get a warning, stop and look around, the next 1-2 warnings try to find it, if no, move and try a better place to spot where warning is.
It just bugs me that for every step I walked, they would've trotted 10 steps more. Nearly impossible to get close with a bow.
Just because I didn't quote anyone, doesn't mean I ignored them.
I'm using keyboard+mouse with the autokey trick. But still, It's kinda tricky to get within 30m with a bow when It tends to trot around every other second, unless It's heading straight to my direction.
i hunt bow only
to get an animal w/o a call you really ahve to take your time and crawl quite a bit....i hardly crouch at all unless im shooting...im either sprinting or prone
also get 20 arrows or so and prac on thin trees at different distances...the bow isnt consistent but ive killed a moose with 1 arrow as well as deer
i use a keyboard as well BUT i have a controller plugged in and if i do need to move crouched and the animal is near then i use the controller but i cant aim for nada with it lol
Seriously though the reds are like that, they are skittish and move a lot. I got a few by camping spots where I saw tracks, but it was out of luck for the most part.
