.270 vs .243
I noticed that the XP and cash for kills using the .270 are lower than the .243. Is that by design? Should i just use the .243 because i am mostly just killing deer / pigs?

i also recently moved to level 13. perhaps that is why the xp and cash went down. you would think xp and cash would go up as you level up though.

I don't know but I hate the .243. Every shot on the front of the deer is just a flesh wound - even with the polymer tip bullets.

its not about level , you have to take the good gun for the good hunt , example with a deer , if u shot it with a .270 bonus integrity will be bad (bullet hole bigger than a .243) but .270 is better than .243 for bigger animals like moose :)

is there a table or some info somewhere on what gun is right for what animal?

it says weapon class in the codex under wildlife, then you have to check to ammo page

270 is class 2.

I find the .22 is great money/xp from boar, easy one shot to the spine/lung. .270 is only bad for the small deer, works fine on larger ones.

Fox is weapon class 0, aka birdshot with the shotgun. Coyote and Roe deer is class 1, the 223 for example. then class 2 is the 243-270-30.06, which works fine on whitetail, blacktail, bears and boars

The 243 is class 2? I have a lot of trouble from it hunting Fallows - I stalk until I hear a mating call then use the lure. This causes most of my shots to be on the front but the .243 doesn't penetrate their chest muscles. It's really annoying.

I'd have thought the .243 was class 1. I had real trouble with penetration on anything bigger than a roe. I've recently upgraded to the .270 and it's a dream for fallows and reds.

red deer is classed as 3 if i remember right, yeah but the 243 is classed as 2, low end spectrum of 2 would be my guess tho

*it says the weapon class on the ammo in the store"

if you shoot the deer from the front i found that aiming very low on the front where there is sort of a flap hanging down goes right thru the heart. one shot kill with a 243. if you hit any higher than that it doesn't penetrate reliably.

The .243 and .270 are both class 2. From what I can tell from using both, the .270 is just a better all round gun, the only draw back is that it's heavier.

IRL a .243 is plenty big for a through and through shot on something like a fallow
