Is walking speed tied to framerate?
Title, me and my friend did some basic tests and saw that his lower frame rate makes him much slower than me.

While latency could cause such a thing, I have noticed that this game...feels different at lower framerates than most other games. Like instead of becoming more choppy, the movement and camera seems to enter some strange slow motion, a common symptom of games which have their animation speed tied to FPS. I'm unsure, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's the case.

it is for sure..
ive noticed it's very odd lag when fps drops.
(though i cannot understand why i cannot run at a solid 60FPS on minimum as i have very high specs pls fix ur game)

Yes, fps and walking speed go hand in hand. Try setting fov to 90 and will increase fps.

I do not recommend this. The FOV setting in this game uses vertical FOV, not horizontal, so 55 in this game is equivalent to about ~80. The biggest FPS killers are volumetric fog, shadows and scene complexity, so tweak these and see if you can get your FPS values closer to one another. If this proves impossible, your friend doesn't have a good enough PC for this game.

He's running on low and doing fine, we just noticed that he was a hair slower than I was most of the time. When he set his settings to ultra, he was WAY slower than I was. So he's on low and I'm on high and we're both about the same speed.

They're definitely tied together. But I really wish some kind of lag compensation/correction could be used so it wasn't so alarmingly apparent.

This kind of stuff is really mind blogging to see in 2017. Reminds me of 8086 games on my 286 where I had to turn the "turbo" button off because otherwise it would play super fast on my beast computer.

Maybe in 5 years from now we'll all be running at rocket speed in Call of the Wild and just doing hit and runs on the deer with the stock of our rifles.

I run at 4k and because the SLI isn't working yet I was stuck at 23FPS give or take which made walking and crouching very slow. Espectially noticable on MP. Turn off Volumentric fog, and SSAO also makes a massive difference without really losing the great looks of the game. I can get a steady 30-35 now with no noticable loss of quality. Just wish they would fix SLI....

I noticed this as well but I dont think it is an issue where it is tied to frame rate. My friend and I did a MP game and it seems like the Host just gets a speed boost. It is quite noticable a faster movement speed especially if you play for a few hours then go back to SP where you no longer have the speed boost.

The "slow" person seems to be moving at normal speed.

Do you maybe have the option to provide a comparison video so I can see it myself? I've not experienced this so far neither in SP nor MP but would like to look into it more.

On my comp the higher I set the graphics at the slower I am walking/running it's a 1:1 fps/speed factor. There is a cap though I'm guessing at 60 fps. This is both in MP and SP but most noticeable in MP because you have someone else as reference. The host can be slower than the client, or faster, it's really tied to the fps.

Then why am I faster in MP than in SP? (timed an auto walk from point to point.) ( I get same frames in sp and mp)

Im not saying it "isnt" tied to frames but something weird is going on for sure. Would be nice to figure out exactly what.

I must admit this is a good question. When I started playing on release I noticed a thread complaining about this fps-speed issue and it stayed in the back of my mind. Depending on where I was in game I'd notice the frameratw drop and my speed wih it so I sacrificed some quality and noticed a huge improvement (I was now walking faster than I used to run).

Later I tried my first and only MP game with my bro and he complained I was leaving him in the dust. Told him of the graphics impact on speed and he floored his settings.. he was now able to not only catch up but easily pass me with his lowered settings.

So like I said it affects both SP and MP.... Not sure how in your case you'd have different speeds in SP and MP.... All I can say is that my fps is all over the place so I'm taking your "same fps" quote with a grain of salt... Depending on time of day, rain, etc my frame rate can easily double.

This is on a 970m card... 16 gigs ram and i7 something, I'd have to check.

3.4ghz with 980ti and it stays locked at 60fps everywhere for me. (not that it couldnt still be fluxuating and affecting the speed.) This game has some really weird stuff going on with it.

(also I think I said i was faster as host, but I was actually a client when I was moving faster. I remember now because I couldnt unlock any of the view towers.)

My friend was the one hosting. I think it is the frams that determines it.
