Just got a new laptop, the game runs fine in my desktop but on my laptop, the game crashes every time I start it up. Does anyone have any suggestions or fixes that can help?!

I also have this issue- Surface Pro 7, 16Gb RAM. I shouldn't have to fire up the MSI gaming laptop to be able to play Chess. Going to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Chess Ultra and launching Chess2.exe does let me in and I can make some settings changes but like the others, the game simply crashes- I found that when it crashes the graphics settings have reverted to medium. Whether I am full screen or Windowed doesn't appear to matter.

Hope there's a solution to this soon. This would really be a great flight companion for me. I rarely get to play while seated at work but for travel.. I would have a blast.
the developers are actually too busy with their other game ''Poker Club'' so yeah they dont give a ♥♥♥♥ basically lol
Hi guys, I had the same exact issue some time ago but then my technician found the solution: the game is supposed to run at 32-bit, so if your Windows/Linux is at 64-bit it won't work. You gotta force Steam to run the game at 32-bit. Unfortunately I don't know the procedure to make this but shouldn't be too hard.

This game can run without crashing by running the 32bit binary from windows explorer. Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Chess Ultra\Chess2\Binaries\Win32. The only remaining issue is nothing is saved playing this way. Games and settings will be lost after quitting.

Doesn't work for me. Try on my new computer. And the game still bugs out and crashes such a shame. Was looking to play this game. Oh well :( Use to work on my old computer. Not anymore.
Having the same issue. Very frustrating.
Same Problem here. Who has 32Bit in 2021? Remove that version.^^
Hi guys. I bought this game only recently and personally haven't encountered this issue but I think Ripstone mentioned in the Quality Of Life Update thread that if you submit feedback at https://forms.gle/r4SDNvkQjpkh6H7P9 it will go straight to the dev team. I wonder if you have tried that.

Besides, I'm only sort of taking a wild guess here. Just ignore this if it doesn't make any sense. Could it be that you played the game on your previous computer with a setting that is not supported by your laptop (for example resolution) but it somehow got carried over to your laptop through steam cloud causing the crashes? If so maybe you could try editing the ini files on your laptop and change the settings before launching the game, for instance yourUserName/AppData/Local/Chess2/Saved/Config/WindowsNoEditor/GameUserSettings.ini?

I hope this issue could be resolved soon. Have a great day.

I have the same problem, but... have found a workaround. If you navigate to the local files and run the binary direct it seems to work fine! Odd.

So for me:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Chess Ultra\Chess2\Binaries\Win64\Chess2-Win64-Shipping.exe

or;

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Chess Ultra\Chess2.exe

Hope that helps.

+1 for the developers to take note.
Game crashes on 64bit too after awhile...
is Steam doing anything to fix??? Same problem as everyone else.. Wont start through Steam.. Crashes after 2 minutes if you try to run through back door. Extremely frustrating!!
Has anyone been able to get $$ back?
I read elsewhere that some people were experiencing crashing with other games as well on Surface Book 3. Some reported that the problem seemed to have been fixed by upgrading the Nvidia driver and the firmware for Surface.

I've decided to ask for a refund for this product based on consistent crashing after "Press any Button" on my Surface Pro 7. It looks beautiful. It's a shame that there's no support for this issue.

Doesn't work for me either. I tried both 32 bit and 64 bit versions. The 32 bit crashed with the first move and the 64 bit let me get to select my piece for the fourth move before it crashed.

Doing in this way I can go further the "press any key" but it crashes as soon as I start moving any piece. I see that the game doesn't save any setting changes. It's so frustrating, so I'll stop wasting time on this ♥♥♥♥♥♥ software and I'll be back on Lichess.org.

Did the same on Kubuntu, just ran it using WINE straight out the folder - no online play though . Seems like the Devs just came back, broke BLitz mode, made new issues then f***** off. Disappointing.
