Game Crashes after "Press Any Button".

Just got a new laptop, the game runs fine in my desktop but on my laptop, the game crashes every time I start it up. Does anyone have any suggestions or fixes that can help?!

I gave up. Would have liked to have the 3D graphics but im on Chess.com now.

it works on my main computer but it doesn't work on my laptop which makes it more weird sucks not to be able to play the game on my laptop

Same problem here. Works fine on my 12 year old desktop AMD FX-8150 with Win 10 Pro, but fails on my new Surface Book 3 with Win 10 Home. Both use Nvidia GTX graphics cards. Follow the "Press Any Button" on the splash screen, and it crashes. Have confirmed all updated drivers and firmware, and have tried multiple uninstalls with reloads. If one lets the start-up splash screen sit for a while, it will crash, too. Very disappointing.

Same problem also. Doesn't work on my Surface Book 3. Crashes as it loads the menu screen after Press Any Button.
Have tried running it Offline Mode and can progress further, however the game then crashes within 2 minutes without fail.
Also very disappointed.
Attempted to get refund from Steam (use to play it on a Desktop I have sold 5+ hours) on the basis it does not work and their current response is that my request does not meet parameters for refund. Was hoping that it would in the least stir the pot and get devs looking for solution to prevent game crashing on Win 10 laptops.
Any ideas here?

If the devs refuse to look into this, them screw them. Wasted money but will not spend anymore time on it. Ridiculous the game cant run on a brand new $1k laptop.

I have the same problem here on a Surface Book 3. Immediate crash after pressing any button. I would love to have a fix for this. This game would be gorgeous on an SB3!

I have the same problem, but... have found a workaround. If you navigate to the local files and run the binary direct it seems to work fine! Odd.

So for me:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Chess Ultra\Chess2\Binaries\Win64\Chess2-Win64-Shipping.exe

or;

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Chess Ultra\Chess2.exe

Hope that helps.

Thanks for tip there mikebp - that does get me beyond the splash screen and into a game for about 90 seconds before crash to desktop. Same as if I play in Offline mode. Not a fix for me but a clue for the devs if we can gain their attention on this matter. Does it fix for anyone else please?

i Had game crash, one time only , then i made download nvidia drivers, after this runs ok.
Check for drivers update.

I also have this issue- Surface Pro 7, 16Gb RAM. I shouldn't have to fire up the MSI gaming laptop to be able to play Chess. Going to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Chess Ultra and launching Chess2.exe does let me in and I can make some settings changes but like the others, the game simply crashes- I found that when it crashes the graphics settings have reverted to medium. Whether I am full screen or Windowed doesn't appear to matter.

Hope there's a solution to this soon. This would really be a great flight companion for me. I rarely get to play while seated at work but for travel.. I would have a blast.
