I was feeling the same way earlier I had to take a break. The last game I got a stalemate on I literally had 3 queens. I'm not a skilled chess player by any means but it was victory for me and shouldn't have been a stalemate with "No more legal moves" It also doesn't make it better when the game takes points away from you but gives the AI points

I'm glad to see I'm not alone in this at the very least. Just had the enemy king (the only remaining enemy piece btw) cornered with my queen. He wasn't in check but he couldn't move anywhere without being in check. The game counted that as a stalemate because fair enough he had no legal moves but I lost 1 score and the AI gained 24!! The rules of this game infuriate me. >:(

Did you have a pawn or a castle on the board at least?. Sadly I'm not sure how points go out for for winning losing stalemate etc in chess but imo even if it does stalemate it should depend on the situation. Like yours you shouldn't have lost any points since you had complete control

Hello there! I am not sure if they will follow regular ELO rules here, but I guess that is the case. Feel free to check how ELO works in wikipedia or elsewhere, but if I don't recall it wrongly, whenever you get a draw against an opponent, ELO points will be awarded depending on who had the highest points at the beginning of the match. It definitely does not depend on the final position of the board. In chess whatever advantage or disadvantage you have on the board does not count for your results. You either win, lose or draw. I hope that helps you understand a bit more and, please, feel free to check the actual rules yourselves!
P.S: stalemate is considered a draw. As much a draw as it would be if you "virtually" shook hands with your opponent. Chess does not make differences in how you get to a draw.

i understand the basic idea behind a stale mate -but when your opponent is only running around with a king and you have a few pawns a bishop , knight and 2 rooks left.. game over in 2 moves,,,and it says no legal moves left-(stalemate) thats a check mate imo.

There's no need tor frustration...that is how chess works.

When your opponent has no legal moves and IS in check = checkmate
When your opponent has no legal moves but isn't in check = stalemate

That's why you have to be careful when chasing the king around the board. Your opponent will always attempt to get a stalemate from you to not let you win when you have the absolute advantage. Just be sure to corner the opponent's king and make sure that there is at least one legal move it can make if you're not going for the check(mate) and just chasing the king around to corner it.

It is just how chess works and it is part of the fun; otherwise the rules would be just "if the opponent has no other pieces than their king, we count it as a checkmate" or something like that. At least the opponent can aim for the stalemate and there's the added challenge to the one with the advantage.

stalemate adds a reason to not immediately give up in a lost position, and keeps the winning player engaged for potential traps that would lead to a stalemate position. i say its an overall plus for the game but i do understand the frustration.

(tip: if you are gonna promote all your pawns for a cool looking checkmate against your opponent i recommend rooks since its much easier to see if it will end up as a stalemate without those diagonals.)
