Auto-rebuild destroyed buildings
Uh, when it comes to buildings falling apart due to lack of maintenance or fires, is there any way to automatically rebuild them? It's a bit annoying having to remember what was built where, and also to notice that something has turned into rubble in the first place... It's destroying my enjoyment of the game since it's pretty pointless micro.

Fires and collapsed buildings are a consequence of not having enough prefectures and/or engineers posts nearby so build more of these two and your troubles will lessen. If any of your buildings are reduced to a pile of rubble (and it happens to the best of us) just right click on the rubble and a window appears telling you what it used to be.

How many engineering stations/prefectures should I have? I mean, it seems as if what used to be a good number for an area is suddenly insufficient when I expand adjacently, resulting in buildings going down (before I can find out about the deficiency). The fires I can kind of get, my buildings starting to collapse synchronously is however more difficult to stomach. :)

the less crossings the less the change that they are going in the false direction.(cut the streat through the land, gardens are like a road) A circuit with no branches is ideal. I think they are traveling 20 - 30 tiles. There is a blend in layer for fire and collape chance.
If you have a straight line that place them at the end of the road (they have to reach citizen)

First, use the overlays to see the fire danger for your cities buildings. This will tell you which buildings are lacking service. You should also watch the route that the prefects take, Each intersection encountered causes a new decision to be made. If you suddenly add new roads, they may alter that path. This can also give you clues to the ideal location to place the fire and engineer buildings. Personally, I use rectangular "blocks" and place engineer and prefectures on the SW corner of each "block", on the inside. This causes them to walk around the block, and return to the station. Follow this advice for people coming from each type of building.
