I skipped all those sidequests in JC3, now you can't
*faceplam*
btw work on the edges of the map first when taking it over, this will cut down on the number of squad teams needed
To be honest, I liked this system more, it's more interactive than just blowing ♥♥♥♥ up
I understand that, but in some open world shooters (including JC 2 and 3) you have the option to explore the entire map and complete challenges and other non-story objectives, maybe even the occasional skirmish on the road, while at the same time progressing the game (not necessrily the base story, but progress nonetheless). In this, outside of mission areas you're either on your own or you are fighting armies which spawn ad infinitum, giving you 0 progress in the game. Liberating towns at least expanded the gameplay to dozens and dozens of potential hours, and awarded you with some progress.
I understand the devs did attempt to make the gameplay less simplistic, while maintaining the chaos, but I feel like they have limited the open world aspect of the game.
I've been attaching as many people / animals to my vehicles as I can. Making cow corpse humunculi out of a pile of their bodies, slowly floating my art through crowds. Zero reaction, btw. All those advancements in the AI and they still haven't nailed irrationally terrified people as a group.
I'd really love a type of grapple mod that acts as permanent bond, has infinite charges and maybe has an undo option or two. The only thing I can see making this fun long-term is being able to create and pilot / do stupid stuff with our horrible monstrosities. Maybe allow us more of a command over the contols like Besieged, give people a crack at making some really warped sh*t.
Possibilites are endless, really, especially if they give us some dev tools and allow us to mod the absolute bejesus out of the game. Works for Bethesda when they release halfassed game after halfassed game. Plus, they cheaped out big in Just Cause 3 with that entirely.
Given how borked this game wound up being, dev tools would be a mighty nice way of saying, "Damn, our bad. Here, have at it. If you want to fix it, by all means, do so.".
Hell, that deserves it's own thread.
The last two were truly open world games like Far Cry 5. Sure the story is limited to certain areas at a time, but there are things to progress on outside of that all over the map. What they have done here reminds me of the older Far Cry where you were 'essentially' limited to the areas unlocked by the accessed towers. You could explore beyond those, but you were going in blind and really couldn't get much done. I really hope devs for these open world games use the same formula used in JC3 and FC5.
EDIT: Having said all that, there are some small things which are new about JC4 that I absolultely love. If they had stuck to the same gameplay style as JC3, it would have been phenonmenal.
